ps3 slim vs denon avr1613

Hey all. I'm deciding whether or not to set the audio out on my ps3 to bitstream or linear PCM. I know that by setting it to bitstream the denon avr will do the decoding, and if I set it to linear PCM the ps3 will decode it. Guess my question is..which one would be suited to do the decoding? Which of the two has the better hardware to do so? Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. TIA
P.S. I notice when set to bitstream the denon sets an "offset" to -4db? Any knowledge about that would also be helpful:-).
Also, everything is hooked up via HDMI.

PCM is the preferred setting using HDMI. The player will decode and send uncompressed loss less audio to your receiver. Plus you can update your PS3 player with new firmware updates, as they come along. I did some research on this, and most agree that PCM is a better choice over Bitstream.Home Theatre.............

That's interesting, I've done some research myself, and some claim that the AVR does a better job of decoding the audio than the player itself...and vice versa. I guess I'll try both ways and see which provides a better sound...if there will be a difference. My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV
