Hi Polkies, I'm a noob at the forum and wanting to start a small HT setup at home, I sold my Bose AM10 setup and switched to everything Polk Audio.

Here's what I'm starting with....

2 pairs of Rti4 from Frys (2013 thanksgiving sale) @ $99 a pair to be used for front and surround
1 Csi5 from local pawnshop @ $65 for center
2 PSW10 Subs @ $67 each (2013 thanksgiving sale)

Everything came in for less than $500, now my question is was this a very good deal or what? I'm gonna be using my old Sony STR-DG510 for this setup or replace it with an Onkyo Tx-sr805 that is posted on CL @ $150?

Thanks

Fun

Sounds like a good deal. Its very easy to spend alot of dough quick in HT. Just curious, what Fry's location do you shop? Atlanta area by some chance?

    Welcome to Club Polk.

I would make sure you test that AVR. Quite a few board failures in that model. Nice set up for the price, sure you'll enjoy it.

It's just going into a 12x15 room size as my daughter in law is going to the Air Force and vacating the room...

    Welcome to Club Polk, fun_dador.

You've got plenty enough of a system for a 12x15 room. You probably won't need two subs in a room that size either, but give it a try before making changes since how much boom is enough, varies greatly from one listener to the next. I would prefer one sub of higher quality, at least a PSW505, as tony said earlier.

The Onkyo TX-SR805 is an awesome receiver! If it's in good shape and fully functional, it's a steal for $150. Some of the Onkyo models have had a high rate of HDMI card failures, but this has not been an issue, from what I've seen/read, with the 805. I have one I bought new several years ago and have yet to find anything I don't like about it. It would give you plenty of power to drive the speakers you have and it has pre-outs for adding additional power amps if you go with some more difficult to drive (ie. floorstanders/towers) speakers in the future.

    Enjoy!

Yeah dude I would toss those subs. They're literally the worst subs I've ever seen Polk make. The rest sounds fine to start with.
    Main Surround -
    Epson 8350 Projector/ Elite Screens 120" / Pioneer Elite SC-35 / Sunfire Signature / Focal Chorus 716s / Focal Chorus CC / Polk MC80 / Polk PSW150 sub

    Bedroom - Sharp Aquos 70" 650 / Pioneer SC-1222k / Polk RT-55 / Polk CS-250

    Den - Rotel RSP-1068 / Threshold CAS-2 / Boston VR-M60 / BDP-05FD

Several people around here have picked those up NEW from Newegg for $190 shipped with a 5-year warranty (3 years on the amp). I think they go that low pretty often there, so you might be able to do a little better than $130 on a good used one, or wait and pick a new one up when they go on sale again. You can set up an email price alert at Newegg and they'll notify you when your price is met.
