Manziel filed for the NFL draft yesterday, that's a lot of talent that A&M is gonna lose. Without him I see A&M is a .500 team at best. It'll be interesting to see how he fares in the NFL, can't wait to see him somewhere next year.

They said worse than that when they moved to the SEC. We'll see. It won't happen, but I'd love to see him go to the Texans.

I'll also add that Auburn won against UL Monroe (in OT), New Mexico St, and Alabama A&M in 2012. That was it. I'm guessing you predicted they'd lose the national championship in in the last minute in 2013 as well?

The SEC is overrated. If you look at the games they played last year, there are several of those that they lose without him at QB. Maybe they've got some other super talented guy waiting, but I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe they can get guys on the other side of the ball to step up, that defense they have is terrible.

I would like to see him in Houston, ditch Shaub and keep that Keenam guy. You could actually build just one offense and either of those guys could run it, so when Manziel gets knocked the F out trying to hurdle an offensive lineman they can put the other guy in and let him run things. Houston has got the parts to be a great team though, they've got tons of talent on both sides of the ball they just need to get a solid QB in there and get everyone to play together as a team.

Nope, I had no idea they'd even be in the mix. I'm not a football genius, but if you look at the games A&M played this year, they lose several of those without him at QB.

Johnny Football, aka Tiny Tim Tebow....

The kid has skills, but I see him as way to immature to step up and handle the pressure. I could be wrong.

I'll be surprised if Manziel has success in the NFL. He may be dazzling against college defenses, but the NFL is a different story.

    Assimilated,
How can you say the SEC is overrated? They were 7-3 in bowl games this year. Better than any other conference.

A defense that was average by SEC standards (Auburn) held one of the top offenses in the nation (FSU) to only 10 points in the 1st half. A missed field goal and a cramped hamstring during a kickoff is what cost Auburn the game. Otherwise, we would be looking at 9 straight years of BCS championships from the SEC.

In the 2013 NFL Draft, the SEC had 63 players drafted. That was more than double the number players picked compared to the next highest conference which had 30 (ACC). Pac12 had 28, Big10 had 22.

All that aside, I agree that A&M will likely have a losing season next year. They were not a great team even with Manziel.

The SEC is good, and are likely the best conference but they're overrated. People seem to think that they're unbeatable and if anything this year has shown that they're not. Overrated doesn't mean not good, it means not as good as people think they are.

Who cares what FSU scored in the first half, what was the score at the end of the game? Alabama got spanked by Oklahoma in their bowl game. Listening to espn coverage and my friends in that area, the general sentiment is that the SEC cannot be beaten and that they just beat up on each other, I would call that assessment paired with the results from the last year or two as being overrated.

Whoever thinks the SEC can't be beat is crazy. Any team/conference can be beaten. Especially in college where emotion and momentum are such a big factor.

The SEC is easily the best conference as far as overall talent goes. Execution isn't always there though. Georgia is especially guilty of this. Bama definitely had a hangover after loosing to Auburn. All year long, they expected to play in the BCS Championship.

    Couldn't agree more.

Out of those 7 bowl wins, four came against ranked teams and no top 10. They beat #13, #19, and #24. They lost to #1 and #11. They don't have to play any PAC-12 school in a bowl and they only play two against the Big 12 (which they were lucky to split).

    Wins against:
    Rice
    Houston
    Iowa
    Wisconsin
    Duke
    Ga Tech
    OK St.

Here's the SEC vs. the Big 12 this year:

    Ok St. 31 Missouri 41

    OU 45 Alabama 31

    TCU 27 LSU 37

Ok St. 21 Miss St. 3

UT 23 Miss. 44 (Here's the anomaly...just like last years game when UT won easily)

I would hardly say it's "easily" the best conference. I do give the edge to the SEC, but the gap between SEC, Big 12, and PAC 12 isn't very wide.

The media love-fest with the SEC is much worse than anything we hear from Emo fanboys:)

Bowl game records don't change the fact that the SEC put twice as many players in the NFL draft last year as any other conference. I'd say that's a pretty big gap.

I can't imagine the Texans taking Manziel with the #1 pick. I have a hard time even seeing him in the top 10, but I appear to be the minority.

Part of that is the fact that they have 14 teams, but I never thought of the best conference as the one that produced the most NFL players. Part of what makes the Big 12 and PAC 12 tough are the crazy offenses. Offenses that don't necessarily prepare players for the NFL.

I agree with jflail2, Manziel is good in NCAA, but a little Tim Tebow'ish. Maybe he will make it in the NFL, not sure he has all the tools. Time will Tell I guess. And as a Georgia Bulldog fan, I do like the SEC. They do produce a lot of NFL players, but not all teams in the SEC are very good. Every conference has its good teams and any can win any weekend.

Paul/Danny, Look at Ohio St., and FSU schedule and how many ranked teams they played this season compared the number of SEC ranked teams playing each other in the conference. Conference dominance goes in cycles. Before the recent SEC, it was ACC, before that was the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State etc.

Now that the BCS championship is over I am sure several uncommitted recruits will jump on the FSU bandwagon. It all goes in waves.

    Ahem. Sooners..

Anyhow, Conferences have their/its rounds. If the SEC is the all powerful, then how is it that Missouri and A&M are the powerhouses there versus being in the Big 12? The SEC does not bother me, its the ESPN analysts, Brent Musburger and the likes. After a great BCS championship game, Mr Musburger states something like "They beat the SEC teams because they tried to be like the SEC and became it". Last time I checked, the NFL is modeled after the Big 12 and the monster offenses.

SEC is waaay better than the Big 10 or ACC. Not a lot better than the Big 12 and PAC 12. I thought the Big 12 was down a little this year, but they held their own against non-conference competition. PAC 12 was stronger than usual, arguably better than the Big 12.

Both the SEC and the PAC 12 benefit from bowl games against C-USA, Mountain West, and the AAC (except Baylor haha). Plus the SEC gets 3 bowl games against the Big 10.

    THIS!!

My favorite quote from the game was this one from Musberger, "Is Auburn the best team Florida St. has played this year?" Seriously?? I hope it's the best team they've played it's the national championship game, supposedly the best two teams in the country.

Johnny Football's size is a detriment to him in the NFL. He is not NFL caliber - scramble was his weapon in the NCAA but a few good licks in the NFL will shut that down. I do hope the Texans will not waste their pick on him.

Let me explain that comment a little more...

Johnny Manziel: 72.5 completion percentage, 2867 passing yards, 26 passing touch downs
Bryce Petty....: 69.3 completion percentage, 2453 passing yards, 18 passing touch downs
Jameis Winston: 70.3 completion percentage, 2502 passing yards, 24 passing touch downs
Marcus Mariota: 64.0 completion percentage, 2281 passing yards, 20 passing touch downs

But yeah, scrambling was his weapon.

I sorta feel the same way since the NFL loves the larger QBs these days. However, it should be noted that Drew Brees and Rusell Wilson are both actually smaller than Manziel.

As with most QB's, it depends on where he goes.

The one thing he has that you can't coach is desire to win. Dude seems to hate to lose and loves to prove people wrong.

I would have loved for him to stay as well. The kid is irreplaceable. I just think it's funny how everyone is so quick to say he's never going to make it. I wonder how many people predicted that A&M would beat Bama their first year in the SEC...and most of that was thanks to him. He's improved a lot from his first year - and he was already a great player. I'm not saying he's going to be a great NFL player, but I'm not going to write him off either. He's got that 'it' factor that you can't quantify in stats - and I hope he goes to a team that will utilize his particular talents in their offense. Just please not the browns...lol

As far as staying goes. You can ALWAYS go back and finish college. You can't always go into a job that starts you off at $420k, if I recall the rookie starting salary correctly. I'm not saying that these guys always make the best financial decisions but you play for 6 years, from what you said is likely, and make close to $4 million (as the league minimum)...I call that a smart decision.
