12v triggers

So I need to finally get around to doing this. My Sunfire TGP-II has the ability to use 12v triggers. My Parasound HCA-750A has the ability to be turned on by one. Right now I am manually turning on the amp after the pre because leaving the Parasound on 24/7 would make the room too hot, and be a waste of energy. The Sunfire is turned on by my Harmony One remote.
However the connectors are not just a 3.5mm one. They need wires and stuff and I got NO CLUE what I am doing.
But I am quite sure one of you has done this and can help me out.
Here is what the rear of the TGP-II looks like

I just need to know can I use any type of gauge wire or do I need a specific gauge and also what to connect to what. Suggestions GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Use low voltage wire, like phone cable. It's tricky as you have to strip the casing off the very thin wire. If you take the outer casing off, you will notice two wires, usually red and green. Just strip those and ensure you have the polarity correct. It worked for my Parasound gear.

I'd say a standard speaker wire like lamp cord + to + and GND to GND should work, I would think! And aw shucks....this isn't a sound connection, it's just a trigger...22 gauge or smaller will be MORE than enough.
This. The wire gauge doesn't matter, but bigger than about 16 and you'll get frustrated getting it into the terminal strip.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Gotcha, will see what I have lying around.... Not sure if I have any phone cable actually lol..... never had a LAN line since I moved out 10 years ago....This. The wire gauge doesn't matter, but bigger than about 16 and you'll get frustrated getting it into the terminal strip.
Grrr..... well will dig around. Hopefully I have something that will work, even my Monoprice speaker wire is 14 gauge lol....."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Ok... here is what I am going to try.
I have a BUNCH of old computer fans I dont need anymore. Most of them are 12DC fans with decently small gauge wires. So I found one I will never need again and am going to use the black as ground and red as power. Hopefully it will work and be long enough.

That will work great, assuming long enough. You seriously could use paper clips if you could keep them from shorting- usually the trigger will work on 5-15 volts, even if it says 12v and it takes hardly any current. It's more the physical pain in the **** of getting a large gauge in the strips or stripping a fine gauge wire.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Yup it was a PITA to get the wire connected right. I ended up using a different fan wire that was longer. Its setup and working great.
Its really nice as I moved everything around last night to put the main stuff behind a glass door so its harder to turn it on manually now.
But well worth it since now the baby cant press the buttons anymore. She can potentially get to my TT but she hasnt shown any interest in that just yet. If we weren't looking at moving soon I would be putting it on a wallmounted shelf she couldnt get to."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Yeah, the trigger has a nice WAF, too. My bryston has the soft switch where you tickle the logo just right and it turns on, which is annoying on a good day and damn difficult after a drink or four (parallels with other WAF intended).
Mashing the clearly labeled button on the pre and having everything else come up automatically? Priceless.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
