Well the Yamaha HTR 5740 wasnt cutting it with cheesy R30-R15 speakers & i upgraded to the Yamaha RX V1 @ 61/2 LBS 110wpc HTreceiver. What a beast this unit is. I spent a few hours hooking it up. Temporary till i can get new speakers it sounds very nice using monitor 10b-5-4's speakers i had kicking around. The R30's really stunk on music quality but decent cheap HT speaker. The RX V1 will take me some time to get adjusted/learn the unit. But i am very happy with it & wife loves the way it sounds & looks

That is sweet.... That gold one is special for sure...A few pix please.?.. I had an RX V3000 which was a little brother to the V1, and it was great.. had it set up with 2 RT1000p's, front and rear c400i's and f/500i surrounds, and a PSW 250 and it was a great. I guess it was a 6.3 config with all the subs, and enjoyed that until what I have now. I did also have one of those Yamaha HTR's that was a HTIB with the 5 Yamaha speakers in another room, and it was ok but nothing like the RX V1... Enjoy!!!My New Year's resolution is 3840 × 2160

I will try to load some pics. Having issues there.... Its quite the unit i have to read ALL the manual because there is way too many buttons & features. Sometimes it takes a little bit to get use to these receivers when you so use to 2 channel vintage units. But that the fun of this hobbie..

I have been looking at those RXV-1's for some time as I think they offer some real value. I have a RXV 2700 in use in my workout room and it has HDMI although my board is fried thus I use other inputs. Of the same vintage is the HK 7200 which has 110 wpc all channels driven and a big doughnut transformer...however this one ended up DOA and I have been tinkering on it. I do like the RXV-1 and still have a RXV 890 running a rig for the past 18 years and will not die. I like the Yammy sound...oh and I forgot about my old woody, a Yamaha CA 1010 which I have apart now for a good cleaning...hope I don't have too many parts left over.
How about some photos with your finished rig.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

TOTL, even if dated, Yamaha AVR there. Plenty of "clean" power. Now you need to decide on your "speaker" set. But remember, a GREAT sub can make even mediocre speakers in the surround mode sound better than they SHOULD! But probably NOT so much for two channel music where you're better off having some real L/R speakers up front!
Enjoy!

Those remind me of the Obelisk in the Star Trek episode "The Paradise Syndrome". Kirk gets trapped inside this, emerges and is mistaken for a Native American God who has returned to rescue the people from a planet killing asteroid?
On a side note, I seem to have left my copy of Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friend's and Influence People at a very influential Polkie's house, OMG! I better "be" careful!
Max Weber, Inductive Reasoning, Kant, Ideal Types! Any takers? Probably not!

I don't know what those are but I'm sure some of our resident Tube-ologists do! Anyone?
They do look nice!
