Hi guys, could you help me with my dilemma. I want to get rid of my stool and put the center channel CS1 on top of my sub. Will the vibrations from the sub damage it in any way? See the image below

It's never good idea to put a speaker on top of subwoofer due to vibrations.

Nothing will sit on top of my sub nor would I want anything on it.
I made a TV riser out of two 2x12s so that my centre channel speaker would sit in front and below the tv.
You can also purchase a centre channel shelf that hangs it on top of the tv.

I am not worried about movement. I had Xmas decorations on top of the sub -- did not move for 20 days. if you look closely at the picture, you will see the dust free area on top of the sub as the xmas thingy was sitting still for all this time. I just do not know if the minimal vibrations will damage the speaker.

Interesting. Are you planning on leaving the sub where it is? Then your center channel won't be a center channel anymore. Or are you going to move your sub to where the stool is now? That option looks like your center channel would cut into the bottom of the display, and it's quite unlikely the sub will sound good there, but who knows for sure.

Yes, I am planning to move the sub where the stool is now -- dead center below the TV. Viewing should not be impacted from a sitting position.

The best position/location for the sub is in one of the corners. Out-of-sight, out-of-mind but the sound will bounce off the walls and fill the room properly.

Get yourself a real center stand and move the sub to a corner.

Some of the other posters alluded to the thought...."the heck with the center on the sub. The question is.....is that the best place for the sub?" Have you done the sub crawl? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV3oLLMgS-M

Once you find the best place for the sub, put it there. Then, get a stand for the center....there are tons to choose from....even custom heights, etc.

As far as damage to the speaker if you were to try it....I seriously doubt it. There are centers with built in subs.

No, I have not done the sub crawl. My room is pretty small 16 feet by 10 feet and not a lot of options for the sub. It is either there where it is now or right next to my couch or in one other corner, but for those two locations I need to run a sub cable around the whole room...

I just bought a wall mount for my center and will mount it under the TV but in your case, best thing would be to buy a stand or actually since it won't damage the speaker, why not try it and see if you like how everything sounds, if it sounds good to you than question answered!

If the sub sounds good there, leave it there. By placing it in the corner you may get some more bottom end gain, but you'll also do a better job exciting room nodes.

Buy a dedicated center stand, it'll look classier.

OK, guys, I tried to draw my living room so you can see what I am working with. Basically I am limited to sub positions. In my view, I have only 2 options for the sub other than where it currently is places -- close to the center channel. In the drawing you will see the actual size of the room, furniture, and the other two sub positions as options marked as yellow circles. Alternative sub position 1 produces the most bass and rumbles the whole couch, but isn't that too close of a position for the sub? isn't it going to damage my hearing (maybe a stupid question)?

I am open to any suggestions.

No such thing as too close(besides sitting on it). By having it so close, bass will be smoother and you'll have more headroom since you may have to turn the gain/level down a bit.

Even better, move one or both of those sofas to the side wall, and put a second sub on the other side of the couch. You'll thank me later.

Yeah, back in the day that was the only option. However, there are tools and toys to make life easier today. Give it a go>

Pick up some furniture sliders from your local store to help move the sub around.
    http://www.amazon.com/EZ-Moves-Furniture-Slides-4-Pack/dp/B001DECMSA

Then get a wireless system for the sub...some modern subs like the HSU ULS-15 come with wireless units. SVS sound even sells the Dayton unit on their site:http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/subwoofer-accessories/Dayton-Audio-Sub-Link-XR-2-4-GH

Dayton Audio Sub-Link XR 2.4 GHz Wireless Audio Transmitter Receiver System for Subwoofers

Outlaw Audio OAW3 Wireless Audio System https://outlawaudio.com/products/OAW3.html

Then you can find new and used center channel stands on Amazon, eBay, CL, etc from $30-$100!

Can you wall mount the TV and put the center on the cabinet below it?

That's a good idea as it will free up space for the center as you say. The only problem is that I am renting and trying to avoid putting holes in the wall.

Guys, I want to thank you for your help. I moved the sub to the position 1 marked on the diagram. The bass has improved quite a bit! I will deal with the center channel stand next ;)
