Hi everyone, I just picked these up yesterday for 250 bucks, These things are huge. I have a couple questions.

1. Is a Pioneer sx1250 ok for driving these monsters?

2. I have no interconnect cable, what should I do? I believe it is blade/blade.

Thanks for the help.

First, congrats on your new speakers.

    1. It'll drive them, but not close to what they are capable of. A high quality integrated amp or separates are the real answer.

    2. Polk sells a replacement blade/blade cable. Call them tomorrow.

You will not be able to use non-common ground, dual mono or mono block amps with those speakers.

Your speakers still have the SL2000 tweeters, which are not all that good. Polk sells an excellent replacement, part #RD0194-1. Highly recommended.

The SX -1250 is a very nice piece. It will do fine if you are not pushing the speakers to ear-splitting levels, but Jesse is right. A nice amp is the answer long-term.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the great deal and great speakers.
I will have to agree with the others; more power would be much better on those. The receiver will work in the mean time.

Congrats on your new SRS 2's. They were my first SDA experience, enjoy them in their stock form for now, upgrade them and your gear as funds allow, but you need that SDA interconnect now. Enjoy!

Welcome! Congrats on the SRS2's! As was said before, that was a great price! I have a set that has been "hot rodded" and love them. They dig deep, and have a sound stage that's huge. Here are a couple of threads on the SRS 2 speakers and upgrades you can do. Lots of reading, but very informative.

I own a pair, as well, that have been reasonably hot rodded and you got a great deal on those! I think I listed the stuff I did to them on your thread in the AK forum, too. Mine have the RD0-194 tweeters, the "new" replacement MW6009 mid/woofers, Solen caps and Mills resistors, new binding posts and XLR connecting cable for the IC cable. I love them and need to put them back out as my main speakers at some point soon since I'm in a new house. Just got to get them out of the closet at my mothers house and move them over.

I like them so far, I am thinking about building a blade/blade interconnect cable. I can't wait to compare them to my Cornwalls.

If you value your 1250, and I'm sure you do, start looking for a good amp to drive them. When I first got my SRS's, I was driving them with my SX1980, which it did well, right up till it went into protection mode. You can get some really nice used stuff for a lot less than replacing your 1250. Good luck, and enjoy the ride.

Again congrats on your p/u of the receiver and the Polks that look to be in great shape. Yes your receiver is a big one but it does have limits and like you've heard it hear a bunch of times you should augment that w/ a stand alone amp. These speakers deserve the best amplification to get them to play at peak performance. You will hear about mods but for now try to secure the I/C cable to get those dimensional speakers working. 2nd post so a belated welcome to C/P from me also.....

Great build quality and SQ. And they have balls.

Get the IC - you are only getting a small portion of the 2's capability.

Or the previous version, A250. Essentially the same amp, but with less-expensive cosmetics.

Yamaha M-80. this is a 250W/8omh 330w/4ohm 2 channel amp with excellent performance and low distortion.

so I'm still powering my original SDA2's with this amp that was bought to power these speakers ... back in 1985! That said, I've had the Yammy refurb'd by Legendary Amps in FL to give 'like new/better' performance.

you can find deals on eBay and such for the M-80's, but assume that there may be some repair/refurb needed. But once set right, these are excellent 'period' amps that compete with today's finest at a fraction of the cost. they are heavy duty, big caps heat sinks, and such.. weigh a ton.. but are top quality.

Many overlooked these Yamaha amps back in the day but they were constructed with top quality caps and other parts. that said, the rear terminals were a weak spot, and most units need attention in that regard.

Good luck with your new speakers. I am finally looking to upgrade from my SDA2's to an SRS series.
