Dilemma. I currently have a pair of RTA15tl with upgraded 198 tweeters and use a pair of earthquake supernova 10" subwoofers with them. I am running them with a Marantz 2325 receiver. They are next to my dahlquist Dq10's/m&k mx 250 sub and carver tfm 35/marantz model 7 clone. I am thinking of trading the polk 15's and earthquakes for a pair of SDA SRS 2.3's (non TL) and would like others inputs on this deal. I have always wanted a pair of the SDA SRS speakers but thought the next size down might be more manageable.

I have not heard or owned the 2.3's but own the SDA 2's, 1C's, SRS, 1.2TL and have heard and owned others. I love them all except for the 1C's which i still like very much if not in a comparison to the others. But I do know that the SRS although a different animal and awesome in thier own right, will leave you desiring your subs back if you are used to using them in regular listening. The RTA 15TL should be very capable in the bass department. Probably close to most SDA models. If you liked them better with subs, you will like the SDA's better with subs and will miss the subs when they are gone. Most SDA fans don't use subs as they are very capable and play very deep. however some listeners like more impact and some are bass heads ( I fall into fall into those categories myself many times) and need a sub to make them happy. I had a hard time at first with my vintage polks because I loved them but missed the volume of bass I was used to.
Either way good luck and enjoy listening the way that you like listening. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

The RTA's and the 2.3's are both very good speakers. However, they are very different speakers. Some things to consider if you are thinking about the SDA's. Do you have room for them? They are huge and need room to really shine IMO. You will need a common ground amp that will be able to run them properly...High current. They will cost more to upgrade if you choose to go that route.
With that said, I would prefer the SDA's personally, nothing against the RTA's. The 2.3 is an amazing speaker IF set up properly, with the right gear and with enough space. As far as bass goes, that's up to you but I couldn't imagine needing/wanting a sub, assuming everything else was in order.
I am not too familiar with the RTA 15TL's but someone who is should chime in and share their experience -
Have to agree with chandler9a, the 2.3's are amazing! I don't think a sub is required unless you are an extreme bass head. They are unbelievable speakers that really makes the music come alive, they will also require proper front end to get the most out of them. I got mine about 6 months ago and a lot of the mods are fairly inexpensive but you can sink a few bucks into these to bring them to "the cutting edge" they are well worth the investment. They do require a bit of space but if you have the room I couldn't think of a better investment. Mine will stay with me until I can no longer hear the music,Home Theater

Yes for the 2.3's to really sound good you need 3' off each side wall for them to really shine.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.
