I was sent a personal invite to a LaZboy open house (as was the rest of the world). The whole store is on "sale." . . . 25% off MSRP
FYI, this is typically not a "make-a-deal" type store . . . But I think I'm gonna test the waters!!

Nothing caught my eye (or behind) except the following

http://www.la-z-boy.com/Product/6953-8586/High-Leg-Recliner/

It is VERY comfortable and compares to non other that I've test driven

This chair/recliner would be used for critical listening/sweet spot ear **** listening

The $64K question is . . . In your experience, is their furniture EVEN CLOSE to a COMPETITVE asking price . . . . $1800 is a lot to drop one one one chair

Can you recommend other high quality retailers (that might sell for less . . .)

Costco has a lot of good deals, and you can get any color you want as long as it's brown.

I have owned 2 lazboy recliners ; both were really nice. The last recliner I got was a Berliner - well made, identical in every way I could tell, just as comfortable and MUCH cheaper. Even with the lazboy discount might be worth a shot to see if Berliner has anything comparable.

Lay Z boy has always been good to us. We just got the Joshua rocker recliner with a swivel base, and a reclining couch and love seat. They were all on sale but when you custom order it they charge you a fee.

I like the La-Z-Boy products. I have found them to be a fair value for the $'s I have spent when I take into account the length of problem free service I get out of them. The first recliner I bought from them was one of their cheapies. It was on sale and I got about nine years out of it, before it needed to be replaced.

The last one I bought I decided to look at what I really wanted. I ended up with the Greyson model and had it custom covered and extra throw pillows made for the couch. I thought it was pretty steep ($1100) at the time, but 8 years later there is no sign of tearing fabric or wear spots. The recline and rock mechanism don't squeak and operate just like they did the day I brought it home.

The only other option I would suggest would be the would be Ekornes: http://www.ekornes.com/us/. Thier chairs are incredibly comfortable and probably about in the same price range you're looking at. It also depends on if the Scandinavian style is your thing.

As a side note, I went with a chaise lounge for my 2 channel room similar to this one.

    Hope that helps,

My basement (home theater) and living room furniture is all La Z Boy. In my experience, it's a "You get what you pay for" type of thing. I've seen people try to go bargain shopping for furniture, only to have it falling apart within a year or two. La Z Boy just flat out lasts! Everything is very heavy duty and built solid. I've always purchased my complete setups using their 3 year no interest deals as well.

Here's the newest living room setup...
    No excuses!

It was an extra $75 on each of the 3 pieces because we wanted a different fabric. Each line of furniture is made with a hand full of different fabrics. If you want a different fabric than what its normally made out of then the tack on the fee. Our couch and love seat is a dark brown almost black and the recliner is bright red but they all have the same texture pattern.

I would suggest that for listening its best if you don't have a high back behind the ears, somewhat uncomfortable sound wise.

We purchased a Lazy Boy recliner in ~ 1988. Gave it to my wife's niece in ~ 2008. It still looked & operated like new (well, other than the arm cover the Lab chewed on). I spent many a night on it after my bypass surgery.
