I don't know anything about your receiver, but look in the manual for it, for "pass through"
-
Your receiver has a common feature called HDMI standby pass through. Assuming you are using HDMI cables, you can run the Directv box to the receiver with HDMI standby pass through turned on. It's on by default (page 138 of your user manual).

i think your right....ill have to check it out....what about when i dont have receiver plugged in....i do this when im gone for a while so i dont leave everything plugeed in...trying to save on electricity....lol.....can i do satellite to tv and then tv to receiver...

I'm pretty sure the pass through feature only works when the receiver is plugged in. Power consumption in standby pass through mode is only 0.5 watts, so any electricity cost savings for unplugging the receiver when you're watching TV are tiny.

Yes if your tv has a fiber optic out you should have decent sound or you will be stuck with the RCA red/white outputs to the receiver. -
