So now I have my new Sony ES 7.1 amp. Are there 7.1 dvd's out there? Any suggestions? I am more of a action suspense type of movie fan, better HT utilization.

Zero, nada, zip, ziltch!! There are no movies available with a 7.1 sound track.

But don't let that bother you, DLPII, DLPIIx, Neo 6, Logic 7, etc. can make any movie into a 6.1/7.1 feast for your ears. Experiment with your gear and you'll be sure to find something that sounds great.

I would assume if you used an analog connection only it would work. On my receiver, if I use digital (which I do Dig. Coaxil) a 5.1 movie will only play on 5.1 channels :(. I haven't tried the analog setup, instead I just do with 5.1 for now and am waiting for more movies with 6.1. Oh, btw - from what I have read, DD EX and DTS ES is not '7.1', it is 6.1, the 6th rear channel can be split across two speakers, but you are only getting one channel, not two, that is why you see a lot of people with this setup going with a rear center channel rather than two rear speakers, but of course it all depends on your room setup.

Like I said before Krunch almost every "newer" reciever will give a matrixed 6/7 channel on all dvd's and plenty of dsp's for music and cable tv. You have a rare reciever that doesn't do it. That sucks for you. Time to upgrade. LOL ;)

I'm pretty sure that 7.1 does exist but its not available for movies yet nor for music. The movies barely come out in 6.1 in once in a while. Hopefully HD-DVD will introduce the 7.1 in future.

The MPEG-2 handles upto 7.1 digital surround sound. Majority of movies still come out in 5.1

    Normally 5.1 is plenty enough.

Many people still don't know what the heck 5.1 is?

It would be nice if the engineers develop something .2 LFE channels. One for the front stage and the other for the rear stage. FRONT LFE and REAR LFE.

I read long time a ago that in future there is a good possibility for REAR LFE CHANNEL.

    7.2
