There's some discussion of the Vincent SA-31 on AudioKarma.

That's a weird statement. You haven't heard it, yet there is better if you pay full price. If you haven't heard it how do you know? Atleast give him some of those "better" recommendations to make your statement somewhat helpful.
I am sure we are all guilty of the the above type statement, but atleast elaborate a bit.

thanks for the link, Glen B. appreciate it."The symbol is not the reality" -
The Vincent stuff is certainly interesting... I do think it pretends to be more than it really is, but generally speaking their prices aren't exorbitant. I think the knock against Vincent is that it's basically of the same ilk as the pure-play Chinese manufacturers but leverages its German design to justify a somewhat higher price tag. The reviews of the Vincent stuff, however, are uniformly pretty darned good.
Dollar for dollar, the "Audio Electronics" (AES) brand from Cary is danged nice stuff - currently there are several AES products on sale at Music Direct: http://www.musicdirect.com/m-239-audio-electronics.aspx Hand made in the US but the prices aren't frightening.
I spent a little quality time with one of the "Constellation" 6SN7 preamps a few weeks back and I was very impressed with its performance.
Just sayin'... -
The Vincent looks appealing to me because...gasp...I want a loudness button to give me that contour at my lower listening levels. Does AES (or other) have a model that has a loudness contour button? I was looking at that same Vincent pre-amp and thought I might give it a go this summer.

I like the loudness button also (I miss the one on my halfler dh-110 that took a dump) along with the bass and treble controls. what I'm not nuts about is the lack of a balance control, as with the way I'm set up I kind of need to accent the right channel a bit."The symbol is not the reality" -
Loudness comp? Nope, not so much.
Yeah, a balance control can come in handy. -

I auditioned a SV236 and did not care for the sound and for the kinda money you can buy that pre for there is better. I am not going to go into whats better but I got a BAT vk30 for $1400. -
I had a Vincent hybrid tube amp here as a loaner. I didn't care for it but who knows you might love that pre.
These things really need to tried at home but that's not always possible.

I am with you on that, add to the fact H9 that the op asked if anyone has heard other Vincent equipment.
