Thinking about going to Florida beaches. Florida keys? Places to stay?

Depends on what you're looking for.

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Siesta Key and then up to Anna Marie Island. These are small little places on the west coast. Siesta Key is just south of Sarasota, Anna Marie is west of Bradenton. If you're looking for a beautiful beach and low key, laid back atmosphere, check it out. If you're looking for night life and fun, fun, fun...don't bother.

I've been to San Diego, Destin, Barbados, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, and others...none matched the sand we found in Siesta Key.

If the Keys are on your radar, give fellow Polkie Evhudson a shout. Think that's how you spell his screen name anyway. He manages properties in the Keys and can guide you best. Maybe even hook you up.

I tried to hit up Evhudsons but his mailbox is full. Does anyone know if he has a website or other contact.

PSOLVK- My wife loves the beach. I like the beach and I like bars. Not too worried about "Nightlife" as I am more of a day drinker anyway.

+1 to Siesta Keys. Truly powder white sand, no matter how hot the weather gets, the sand stays cool.

We live about 4 miles from Siesta Key. It is, truly, the whitest sand you'll find in Florida. It's rated the #1 beach in the US on a regular basis. And, the west coast of Florida is much more relaxed than the east.

Just read this article about construction at Siesta Key. Might be worth a look: http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2013131229724

Larry may have evhudsons contact info if his mailbox is full, evhudsons bought the second pair of CRS+ stands from Larry when he made two pairs. Larry is still the coolest dude ever for making those stands!

Plus one on that location...my favorite place in the whole state!

Why does the sand make any difference? Some one is rating their vacation destination based on sand?

Two couples? Try Key West - lots of restaurants, endless live entertainment. Lots to do. It's actually a different country called the Conch Republic. Check it out.

Question, kids or no kids? This makes a big difference in my eyes. If kids are involved, Panama city beach area has a ton of stuff for the kids to do. If adult, Keys, Sanibel Island, Siesta Key are all great places. We found going with my wife's 2 kids, my daughter and 2 grand kids they got board of water and sand after a little bit. Panama city beach isnt as nice as far as the gulf front but, a lot more for kids to do. So it all depends on your situation.

I don't think anyone said that. Just said that the beaches are beautiful. I also made the point that there's not a whole lot to do there so it's more of a relaxed vacation spot. BUT, all things being equal I'll take the place that has the best sand since you'll be spending most of your time on the sand.

Good point. I wouldn't do Siesta Key with my kids. To me it just a sit by the beach with a cold one and relax type place.

I can't remember the name of the place, but we ate a restaurant overlooking the beach in Anna Marie Island that was awesome. The salad had a mango vinaigrette dressing and they had complementary bread that had coconut baked in. My wife and I both could have ended our meal after the salad and bread and would have been satisfied customers.
