Hey Polk, it's about time ya'll got off your lazy butts and fixed the forum. As usual after Christmas we will be getting a lot of new members and Club Polk is a mess. Along with the other serious issues the spam here is completely out of control.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I still do not have all of my permissions restored so I cannot do permanent bans unless I am in the office. Ken and myself clean them out as best we can until then (Monday). Thanks.

Hello and Merry Christmas to the team at Club Polk. The permissions take less than three minutes to set up and that's if one is moving real slow. This is something that doesn't cost money, doesn't involve an act of congress nor should it be something that Polk HQ needs to hold an emergency meeting for. Whoever the administrator is, please restore the permissions that were taken away from the few moderators you have here. You are making them work way harder than they need to and this is causing them to work tirelessly to keep up with the spammers when, if the permissions were restored, all it would take would be to check the permanent ban box deleting any and all threads/posts made by said spammer. Permissions to ban a known flagged IP would help tremendously as well.

You have a great team assembled here. Please give them the authority that will allow them to clean up the forum. With all due respect,

    Tom

Like I said, "You are making them work way harder than they need to and this is causing them to work tirelessly to keep up with the spammers". ^^^ This is a good example of just that.

Thanks nap and Merry Christmas to you, sir.

For what it's worth I own, and have helped moderate another forum that uses vBulletin software, and for quite some time we battled serious spam issues. After trying numerous captcha add-ons the one thing that finally worked for us was to make the "random question" part of the registration an actual question. As it stands it would appear that the bots are able to figure out that "matthewpolkisactuallyaperson".

If you've tried this already, perhaps I missed it. If not, give it a shot. Hopefully it will save you a lot of headaches.

Crazy thought, and I don't even know if it's possible, but what about 'deputizing' senior members, say north of 10k or 15k posts?
Obviously, this privilege would come with a STRICT no abuse policy. Anyone blocking a known member/ non-spammer would be PERMANENTLY banned themselves on the 1st offense.

I'd elect F1, T3, and mantis. They're frequent enough that they'd help keep the forum flowing, and they're not too 'passionate' about their views.
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

I second Obieone's idea, and I'd throw TonyB in the mix as well, he may be opinionated, but he seems pretty clear about treating people right, or not over-reacting when they are ****.

Should we continue to report the spam? The reason I ask is because several of the threads will have as many as 10-15 views but don't appear to have been reported.

Why? Apparently, this isn't that big of a problem. To me, it is an embarrassment. Not closing a known spam entrance for years is a professional faux pax.

You're right BlueFox, it is an embarrassment and is inexcusable!!!

The new IT guy at DEI/Polk was suppose to fix all this stuff some time ago. Maybe we should have that recovery dude talk to him.

Good morning all. Well, I would hope at this point that at the very least permissions have been restored to the moderators. FWIW, I do have some suggestions that I would be willing to share offline with Polk IT or the administrator. I have actually created a vBulletin moderator tutorial a while back that has assisted in letting a spammer actually post on average maybe 4 to 5 times a month on another website with minimal work performed by a moderation/admin team of 5 people, none of which are paid for their services.

I see that SPAM has been the number one complaint on this forum and it has been that way for years. What I do not get is the fact that it doesn't even need to be an issue at all and it appears as if no effort has been made to correct this issue. I will offer once again my knowledge, experience and a plan that is known to work year after year for zero dollars out of Polk's pocketbook.

Let's face it, this forum has a problem. What I am offering is a solution.
