DJ Sound System
All,
My brother is getting into DJ'ing and is interested in sinking some $ into a new sound system for this purpose. He's never had a system before, so there is nothing to upgrade. Budget is about 3.5-4k and would include the receiver/amp, all speakers, and a sub (not sure about other equipment he will be purchasing, such as a mixer, etc.). He is looking for "commercial grade" sound equipment that is, for obvious reasons, easily portable as well. Any help/suggestions for what would be the best bang for the buck is appreciated.

OK!
CERWIN VEGA LW-15
I have heard the 12, and I swear to all that is holy.......that is the LOUDEST, BOOMIEST, CRAZIEST EFFIN BASS I HAVE HEARD FOR THE MONEY! Buy 2 of them things, on ebay for 300 each + shipping. IT IS AWESOME, atleas the 12 in, i can imagine the 15 only to be much louder- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
For the speakers you can check out www.jbl.com and www.klipsch.com and click on "Commercial Audio". Most venues use these two brands. I don't know anything about DJ amps but there are online stores for them.

I'll second the JBL suggestion. I'd keep an eye out in the "pro audio>DJ equipment" section on E-bay. Plenty of complete systems that may be close.Make it Funky!

Ex Dj here " 12" Productions", 4k, that is a very tight budget. Well, I used Cerwin Vega Subs and Mids/highs, I would highly recommend them, excellent sound. I always used to say, If a dj has a good sound and light system, he/she can get the party going even if he/she is a bad dj. As for amps I used QSC amps. Question, where is your brother planning to Dj at, also what kind of media is going to be used? I had lp's using Technics 1210's turntables and a nuwmark mixer. Well, out of the business now(married now), more into recording and producing beats and mixes now. Any other questions let me know.
New to the polk forums, but have been reading up for some time now, plan to purchase RTI6 CSI5 RTI4 PSW505 and a H/K430 all at once some time this week, the joy I am going to have opeing the boxes of toys, can't wait. -

Thanks for all of the comments/suggestions so far. JrVtecAccord, I'll ask my bro your question above and perhaps provide you with some more details on what he is looking for.Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

Tell him to find some used Soundcraftsmen amps. They are built like tanks and run forever, most importantly sound fantastic. PM840's or PCR800's, bridged.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I did some mobile d.j. work and some for the club that I worked for. Go cerwin vega for the speaker end of it we had the folded horn subs with 15 inch drivers and horn mids and horn tweeter modules in the rafters and they would run you out of there. We also pwered them with the peavey cs800, 900, and 1200 series and I tell ya that these are the tanks of the industry, these took way more than their fair share of abuse and never layed down on us. Also I will echo about the t.t.'s, got to have the 1200 mk2 technics these are also built like friggen tanks and take lots of abuse as well. I wish the best of luck with his budget, he is going to find it may take a bit more than that even with just a good starter system.
Cheers,

I have no affiliation, but these are worth checking out for pro audio. I hear they sound better than many audiophile amplifiers in there price range and the Servo 260 can be had used on ebay for around the $200 dollar mark. They make a servo 170 and 260 plus the 550 which does 275wpc into 4 ohms. These can also be bridged as well. Here's their website.
