First of all I want to thank Doc and everyone that continualy help people like myself on this forum---- I've sent private messages that have been answered and very helpfull,---- Because of so many willing to help
in my opinion---- this is the best audio , video forum. Just wanted to thank all of you for taking time to help newbies like me.
A few more questions on calabration. I don't know if I did it right, but using test tones [ receiver ] the master volume set to 0 then using osd calibrated all speakers to 85db. I am getting AVIA and will recalibrate when I get it. also set sub to -5 on osd---- will use HSU disk to calibrate sub. Is the way that I did the calibration ok? I also saw where you set osd to 0 for speakers. Start master volume at 0 --- then using master volume to get 85db on center channel then using osd + or - db to calibrate the rest of the speakers. If you can set master volume at 0 and using set up disk---- is it possible to calibrate the speakers using only the + or - db on the osd---- then o would be the refrence level. Is this right or not? My system realy sounds great since the calibration- If I'm doing something wrong or need to do it another way please let me know.---- Also on sub calibration which direction should the spl meter be facing when the sub is behind where you are sitting? rex H/K 520 lSI9S front LSIC center Rti38 rear VTF-2 SUB 36HFX71 Toshiba Toshiba 4800 dvd panamax 5100 surge

You can use the AVR internal test tones to balance the speakers, as for the reference level I dont know. It can be done when you get AVIA and you can do it the way you descibed. It doesn't matter where you point the RS meter on sub test tones, as long as it is near the listening position. Have you had any problems pushing the LSis with the HK? I know it is rated at 4 Ohms but just curious.Graham

Haven't had any problems with the 520---- I don't listen to music or movies at very high levels
-25db speakers are set to small with 80 crossover. The 9s didn't sound very good the first week, but they are getting better and better. I ran out of crazy money buying receiver, speakers, sub. My next two items are new rears and sunfire amp so that I and the receiver can rest a little easier.
How do you get a test tone for the sub? I got them for all of the speakers but how do you get the sub to give a signal to be measured on spl meter? Thanks again for the help

You cant get a sub signal on the Harman receivers. I just do it by ear until I get my S&V disc. Have you also looked at Audio Source and Outlaw audio for the power amps? They are well regarded and good prices.Graham

I have considered outlaw as a possibilty. But what realy sold me on the lsi9s was a friend that has 9s and 7s hooked to a sunfire amp and it is awesome. I bought everything new-- and ran out of money. The biggest mistake that I made was not looking on this forum or asking my friend how to get started. I thought that if I got speakers like his
all that I needed to do was to plug them in and I would have what he had. Now I know that home theater is more complicated than than chess or golf. But when everything is done right
the rewards are great
And I know that I have a long way to go. Everyone on this forum is very helpful. Many of my questions have been answered by looking at problems that others are having. When I heard the 9s for the first time I thought that they were defective and was going to take them back. Dave told me it took at least a couple of months to break in the 9s
after playing pink noise while were out has helped a lot with a quicker break in
they sound 100% better already.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has Lsi speakers hooked up to an outlaw amp and how they like it. The sunfire would be quite a bit more money.
