Hafler DH 110 v B&K CS 117, which is the better sounding unit? I picked up a CS 117 but have never been able to listen to it as it a bad transformer. I replaced that but it turns out the iC is also bad in it This leads to an expensive repair. I wanted to compare the two preamps but do I need to?? Thanks

Better than what ? What you have is two units with different sound signatures, whats better is up to your ears.
You could probably pick up a working CS-117 off of fleabay for under a Benjamin. Saw one not long ago for 50 bucks.HT SYSTEM-

I am not familiar with the b&k, but I have had a halfler dh-101 and 110. the 110 matched up beautiful with my parasound
hca-1200 until it took a hit during a storm. also an expensive repair, so now it sits. I really like halfler pre's, and I miss the 110.
very clean sound."The symbol is not the reality" -
"What you have is two units with different sound signatures" Yes I am well aware of that but I cannot hear one of them and need to move or not move. I know what the 110 sounds like. In fact when I worked in the audio biz I used to sell them. Everbody has different gear, cables, ears, rooms but I have found that a number of people hear the same things i hear so if they descrie the sound they hear out of the 110 and it matches what I hear then when they describe the 117 it should be of interest.
I suspect the 110 is the better unit but would like to be sure.
