I am thinking about the possibly of changing the KT-88 stock tubes in my Yaqin MC-100B Integrated Amp. What brand tubes have you tried in your amps, and what was the impact ? Do you have a best Bang for the Buck favorite ? I already changed the four stock 6n8p tubes and the two 12AX7's which made a noticeable improvement.

I have an MC-100B and went with the Shuguang 50 years treasures.. I got a matched quad, and they are night and day from the stockers... THey are really sweet and warm...no mushy bass and smooth mids.

I like the Shuguang Black Treasures as well ... The Gold Lions are also good but the highs could be too raw on some bad recordings. The SED 6550s are also nice. More linear but less bass slam than the Gold Lions and Black Treasures. I tried them all on my mac mc275.

I have the Treasures KT88s, TS KT120 and EAT KT88s. The EATs are by far the best sounding in my rig but IMO too expensive (I won them in a contest) The Treasures are very nice and prefer them over the TS KT120s. For the money you can not beat the treasures IMO.

Thanks for the comments. I can get a Matched Quad of Svetlana 6550c " winged C " tubes for $175. They test strong and are made in ST Petersburg Russia. Is that a good price for these tubes ? Would new treasures or gold lions be a better bet ? I now have a low hum coming out of one speaker caused by a KT-88 tube. I have it narrowed down to the one in V3 position. It caused the hum in the right speaker and when I changed it to V2 position the hum then came out of the left speaker. ( only one speaker at a time with hum ) Can the amp still be played this way until I get replacement tubes or will it do damage ?

What is the bias rating for these 6550c tubes and will they work properly in my MC-100B Amp ?. My existing Kt-88's have a bias of .550ma
