Couple weeks ago in the Vintage Hi-Fi thread I talked about a receiver that my brother snagged for me at an estate sale. I was eager for him to get it packed up and shipped up to me from Texas, and it arrived this morning....I was afraid to post the crappy IPhone pic he sent me, as it looked good, but it was grainy and in low light and I couldn't tell anything from the pic. This is the receiver I have wanted since I was a kid and my brother has remembered that for 35 years. And it came with a wood case that has 1 tiny light scratch in it that I can cover up with no issue.

I have to say it is MUCH sweeter than I expected, it needs a minor cleanup and a lamp kit, but it sounds like heaven, fully functional no scratchy pots no funky smells just sweet Marantz sound with tone and power out the waz... I hooked up my 5B's, and the direct out from my pre with sources TT, SACD and Squeezebox. This thing is a BEAST, yet it sounds sweet at low to moderate volumes with tone controls set to neutral.

    Yes it is not for the frail. It is definitely a man's receiver and with the case it is over 65 lbs.

    Yes I am only at about 09:00 on the vol... but the 5bs sound great, and they are not straining... also got news today that my 703's will be back from Mr. Trey very soon. I will probably switch the LSi 9's to this and look for a really nice pair of sda somethings in the spring to round out my vintage rig.

    I think it sounds better than it looks... Very clean and warm... Vocals are the most accurate i have heard from any receiver I can recall... the oo even had all the unused rca's capped..nice touch..anyone know a good source for a lamp kit?

    Had the day off today, so I pulled the receiver out of its case to replace the lamps with LED's that came today. These are warm blue LED's and I think the look good. Don't have to worry about the bulbs burning out, and they run much cooler. While I had it apart, i took the face off and gave it a nice cleaning. This was the steal of a lifetime.. Watcha think polkies?

    How many times did you replace lamps? I have a 2252B too that i acquired last fall that will probably go to the office rig... I did a LED kit on that too...I believe this 2385 to have had only 1 owner, as it is very well kept, and although there a couple of marks on the face, it is one of the nicest I have seen and it cleaned up real nice.. all of the silk screened printing is perfect...It is really a joy to listen to.
