I know it's not the best but I have to start somewhere. Was informed that my Denon 1611 is a bit underpowered for my 70ii's

This is available for $299. Pull the trigger or just wait and save about $1500 for a better amp?

I do know I will have to buy a new AVR as well.

Well if you need to pull the trigger I'd go a step or two up the Emo line.

XPA 3 is a few Ben's more and would cover your front stage for sometime to come. Then use the new AVR for 2-3 back channels.

You could also scout the want ads for a good used amp maybe get a nice 5ch. then find a nice pre-amp

Correct me if i'm wrong but the Denon 1611 does not have pre-out's. I don't see how you can run an external amp off that.

    Hi

You will need a new AVR either way you choose to go. Why not get a PIO SC there is a SC-63 at Newegg for 849.00
The UPA is 299.00 and then a new receiver with pre-outs will start around 700.00 maybe less for a decent one.

Then later you can get the Amp.

    Cheers

I don't personally understand why you would spend a lot on a AVR when you'll be running your speakers on an external amp. I bought an Onkyo 3008 cause I thought it would run my speakers (rti8's then 10's) but when I got the rtia9's the amp was not enough to make them sing. Even if I bi-amped them they did not sound as well as they could. I feel like I spent way to much on my Onkyo for a lot of features I don't even use.
I would pick up an AVR for under $500 like an Onkyo 717 or something with pre outs then get yourself the Emotiva xpa-5 to run your speakers. You won't be disappointed with that amp. Just my HO.

If you have a strong AVR, you won't need the amp for the M70's. There was a Pioneer SC25 for 450 in the FM that would be perfect for you.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. As far the FS forum goes.....I have a few posts to go before I can view it. LOL
Never went with an amp before. Quite new on the audio side. I mean I have had numerous AVRs but nothing serious.
Plus having a kid in college put a crimp in the wallet.

Get the Pioneer in the FM and THEN start looking at an external amp. There is no such thing as having too much power. Just about
all speakers improve when powered to their full potential which the vast majority of receivers simply cannot achieve.

Agreed but he doesn't have enough posts to see it. I'd check and see if a local Costco has the 1222K, currently $399...

Yes the M70's should be fine with a good honest 100 WPC.

I'd highly recommend a Pioneer SC series for those, you won't need an external amp and they sound great together. Later down the road if you ended up with more difficult speakers you could always add an amp too.
