Chord for cable tv?

Alright so in my room I have cable, but not time warner with the 1000+ channels or whatever down stairs. I have a chord that connects dt/tv through the wall and that's where I get my cable tv from, so how can this be connected to my av receiver? Will I need a cable box or is there a specific cable that I can use?

thanks

Ok. Tell me if I'm reading this wrong. Are you wanting to hook your cable from the wall straight into your AVR?

I guess so, pretty much any way I can get cable without a box as I don't have one in my room. As you can probably tell im very new to this.

Np. You will have to go cable to TV and HDMI to AVR .

That's if your TV has an HDMI out.

If not and your TV has an optical out and your AVR has an optical input

If none of te above you'll need a cable box

It should have a spot for a coaxle cable TV wire. You plug it in there and a digital toslink cable from the tv to the receiver. If the tv has a digital out.

^^^ This. Most TV's do limit optical to 2ch.

spdif should be digital audio output, that can go to your receiver. You will need a toslink or digital optical cable. They are very cheap on both monoprice and amazon.
    This should do:

Ok thanks. Do you think buying a cable box would just make everything easier for me though?

You can do it either way.

I prefer having all my HDMI sources i.e. PS3, Bluray player, Cable box etc going to my AVR then out to my TV. I do have friends that have there setups configured all HDMI's into TV and optical out to receiver using there TV remote to select inputs...but to each his own.

There are fee's for the cable box

yea the issue is 1) switching and 2) dolby digital. Are you running a surround setup? I know with my bedroom setup, even though my tv us supposed to be able to pass through DD out the digital output, I cannot for the life of me get it to work. But its not a big deal to me in there, and I use a harmony remote which does all the switching for me. All things considered it probably would be easier with the box if the cost is worth it to you.

Is your incoming cable service signal scrambled? If so, you must use a cable converter box.

Some cable TV providers send the local HD channels un-scrambled. They also send low quality analog video for the more popular cable networks.

I think the best chord for cable TV is A#sus2.
    C7 is no slouch, either.

If you have no cable box, connect the cable from the wall to the TV. Then connect the audio out from the TV to the AVR to send the audio through your speakers.
