All,

I am looking to purchase the following:

Fronts RTi8
Center CSi3
Sub PSW505
Rears RTi6

I was wondering if I should buy the FXi3's for the rear instead of the RTi6's. I will be using the system 70/30 Home Theater/Music.
What is the sound difference between these 2 speakers?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

The RtiX speakers are direct radiating, meaning that they fire forward (or in the direction that they are pointed). The Fxi are a Bipole/dipole speaker, meaning that they fire to the sides. Bi/dipole designs are great for HT applications and multichannel music also. The basic premiss is that Bi/dipole speakers will provide a much more difused sound than a direct radiating speaker. This means that the surround effects are not localized. The idea is to not know which exact speaker is providing a specific sound at any given moment, rather the effect should be more emersive from all of the speakers. There's nothing worse than hearing a surround efect and knowing exactly which speaker it came from, it's far too distracting.

If possible place the Fx speakers on a side wall, this will provide a better listening experience for you and your guests. Direct radiating speakers do a great job when used for the rear channels in a 7.1 speaker set up.
