I'm one of the many here who also use a 555 series1. Depending on condition $200 is below the average of $300 which is on all about every buy site there is. I got mine for $300 w/ spec certified from Audio Classics so it was checked and cleaned and they threw in shipping.Very powerful, clean I think not bright as some allude to and can push around just about any set of speeks most people around here have.

Man those are real nice and at $60 apiece a real steal !!! I will have to hit some pawn shops when I am off next week.
Ha! I saw them sitting there in the corner of the shop and had a bit of an internal freak out! I really had to play it cool and keep a calm guise...Bedroom Stereo: Harman Kardon H/K 3490/DCM-CX27's (goodwill find)

Also, what would you guys think about a NAD C270? I can also get one of those for about $220. Seems a little weak, but it does have soft clipping.Bedroom Stereo: Harman Kardon H/K 3490/DCM-CX27's (goodwill find)

I recently purchased a used GFA-555 for $300. They were going for more than that on E-bay. Good deal and a great amp.

I know the SDA2Bs are a different animal but I used to drive them with a GFA555 and it was more than enough. I sold that amp and bought a GFA-545 which still drives them to levels that are very loud. Nice speakers!Glad to see I'm in the ballpark with the GFA555. I figured these things could eat!SDA2BTL

Man, nice score. Congrats and don't try to hide your wallet, we will find it. Others can chime in but I believe there is a narrow range of proper resistance to properly fabricate a interconnect cable. I heard this but have nothing more to go on it.

I made mine out of high quality speaker cable. Works a treat and improved the imaging over the original stock cable."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Welp... It turns out my buddy had already sold the GFA555 about a month earlier. I hadn't voiced my need for it to him before that time, so he had no intention nor idea to hold it for me. Not his fault at all. Ill post a few updates here in a bit.Bedroom Stereo: Harman Kardon H/K 3490/DCM-CX27's (goodwill find)

Awesome! I'm glad to see someone else using a 555 to power some 1C's! would you say $200 is a fair price for a gfa555 in great physical and functional condition?
I had GFA-555II that is now replaced by Rotel RB-990BX.
I sold the GFA-555II for $350 so $200 for 555 sounds good.
Even 545 brings that much sometimes.

Hi, Mystery. I am currenly looking for 555II or 990BX. Understand you had tried both 555II and Rotel 990BX and you prefer 990BX over 555II. Can you share how is the sound of 990BX?
A price of $350 for a mint 990BX worth it? -
Those jokers are nice and even though I use SpeakOn Nutrik for my interconnect I think you did a kick @ job with the Nannars...You will do more, a lot more believe me you will...Welcome !!

Hi, i have just purchased 2 x 970BX instead. I planning to bridged mono amp the SDA 2B, but i notice that some people said SDA 2B cant be bridged mono amp.
Need advise, thanks -

Do not do that. Two reasons SDA's need common ground with what you propose you do not have common ground any more.
2. Bridged amps do not like to see lower than 8 ohm load. You are starting out with 6ohm and going lower. Plus bridged amps INCREASE the noise floor. If you are bound and determined to go this route you cannot use the interconnect cable, so you just lost what SDA's are all about. -
Thanks. Looks like i made a mistake to purchase g both 970BX for my SDA. Think i will just use them for my monitor 10B. Meanwhile will keep a look out for a higher power amp like BX990.
