Yep. It's the best Western flick in the past decade. The other great Western movie before this one was with Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood (I don't recall the title of the movie.)

Kinda hard for me to get back into the Western scene since I ruined myself by watching Bend your Back over Mountain.

The soundtrack on this one is fairly restrained... until Costner fires the shotgun in the bar. BOOM!!! You will know if your sound system is up to the task when it happens. Best gunshot sound effects of any movie, IMHO.

Oh yeah. That shot alone had people out of there seats when I spun this for a moive night. Along with that, the final gun battle, one of the best ever filmed, better then the OK battle in Tombstone.

While I really enjoyed this movie, I did get some "Costner fatigue". I don't know why, but the guy just kind of grates on me after a while.

Robert Duvall was incredible, just as he always is in westerns. He literally made this movie for me and he was amazing in Lonesome Dove.

Has anyone seen Broken Trail? I heard he was pretty good there as well.

Is that a western? I don't like westerns that start with "broke" and such.....

You don't know why? The guy is probably the worst popular actor of our generation. Maybe tied with Keanu Reeves and Paul Walker. No matter how good a movie is (see : The Untouchables), Costner inevitably will drag me out of it. Ugh, I do NOT understand how he keeps getting work, I really don't.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Costner is all right IMO. I liked that Bodyguard movie plus the one where he is a rescue swimmer with that kid. Open Range was one of my favorites and Lonesome Dove was a hell of a good one too.

Who the he** is Paul Walker?

Paul Walker is the kid in Fast and the Furious, and that "Into the Blue" movie with Jessica Alba... just god-awful.

Costner's in some good movies, it's just him that sucks, not his taste in roles :)
