Desktop rig toe in??

I've had my Audioengine A2's for a while now. When I set them up originally, I remember trying out a variation of setups and ended up with just a hair of toe in.

Yesterday for slips and giggles, I started messing around again and found that a toe-out actually sounds much better in my setup.

Maybe this is common/typical and I just didn't know, but I am interested if anyone else has similar experiences.

How are your speakers setup in your desktop rig?

Thanks,
Paul

I have a slight toe in. I swear the sound comes from my monitor and not the speakers.

I absolutely love the way my desktop set up sounds. I consider my placement outside the norm but I would have it no other way, huge staging (gigantic) and the subwoofer is hidden at the bottom.

I had the same thing with my slight toe. But when I toed-out, it kept the center image and really opened up the sound. Not all rigs are the same of course.

To not toe in, is to not tune in. Nearfield listening requires toe. I kick mine in as I would any other loudspeaker.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Maybe I should attempt to bump my speakers farther apart (as they are directly on each side of my 15" monitor) and then toe them in? As they sit now, the toe out seemed to improve them fairly significantly. Granted that is with only about 8 hours of listening on them.

The other issue is that I don't really have much room to bump them out.

I will continue to try different placements tomorrow.

It is really how they sound to YOU, not the keyboard losers like me. I can only relate my nearfield listening results...your findings can certainly vary. Hell, you might have a giant head or weird ears for all I know. If it sounds good it IS good.

Ignore those other guy Trey... that is a SMOKING setup.

Why did you go with the M-Audio over say the KRK Rokit 5's or 6's? Also how does the KRK sub sound? I have HIGHLY debated snagging some KRK's at some point for my computer as they are REALLY NICE.

To be quite honest I bought the M Audio before the KRK. I got the KRK sub at a steal...

I truly would not buy the KRK because of the stupid color of the woofers... as crazy as that sounds

Have to go with Doro on this. Although my computer rig is low-fi vintage. Two Minimus 7s powered by a Realistic STA-700 (successor to the System Seven receiver with an active equalization circuit specifically for M-7 speakers that really brings out their sound).

They sit atop two slightly larger B-shelves I use as stands and to raise the Realistics to ear level. As per standard procedure, each is aimed at the L/R ear so as to form a nice triangle and tweaked by ear from there. So some toe but not excessive. The speakers themselves are three feet apart and probably close to three feet from the seated position.

There are of course "better" configurations, amplification, etc. than this humble set up. But my God how CHEAP this is with fairly decent sound, even bass? Unless you really need to rock out.

There are, of course, other more capable speakers and amps in this room for when I want to step it UP. But for everyday stuff the old Ratshacks do fine! And I can pretend I'm back in college when I would have killed to have had this as my system, in my room! Money was always short back then.

My TL3's are toed out slightly. They are sitting in back of my 22" monitor so I toe them out so the sound doesn't get totally blocked.

I am sure I could get used to it but I like the way the M Audio sound after break in. They sounded pretty terrible out of the box. The highs are still not that impressive to what I am use to but it works for me as it lets me listen more to the music versus the gear... :)

I've wanted that KRK sub to go with my KRK RP6 G2s for a long time. Where did you find the good deal on it if you don't mind me asking?

I've finally had the time to mess around with my desktop setup some more. I was able to bump them out a little more (about 24") and toe them in.

I tell you what, might not make sense, but to my ears, in my little office, with my little speakers....I enjoy the sound more with a slight toe out.
