Question on wiring RT2000

Can I bi-amp these speakers?....... Just kidding :D

Ok so I'm trying to reconfigure my HT setup yet again. Recent additions are RT55s, RT2000ps and a CS1000. Currently I have the RT55s up front and RT35is for surrounds with the CS1000 center. Due to room constraints I can not put the RT2000 up front. Their footprint is too large for the available space. I was thinking about putting them as surrounds. Would it make sense to remove the jumper and run speaker wire from the front terminals on the receiver to the upper binding posts on the speakers, and using line level connections for the subs? I have 2 subwoofer pre outs on my receiver. Is this a good idea? What happens when I run Audyssey? Will this confuse the program or will it configure it properly as a 5.2 setup? If so will this be better that using the PWS111? What will happen if I want to use the stereo listening mode? How will the subs react? Will the result be much better than the current configuration? Since I have French doors, a fire place and a concrete slap for a floor, running the subwoofer cable is going to be a real challange. I'm not sure the result is going to justify the effort. Here is a picture of the current setup. what do you think?

Wow, only one reply! Based on what I found when I did a search I expected this thread to generate numerous detailed replies.

Probably because I nailed it in 2 words that most would agree with. The sub portion of the 2000p's is ment to augment the speaker, not act as a separate subwoofer in a HT. Plus the speed of your dedicated sub will not match that in the 2000's causing some terrible bass sounds within the room.

Why not try them elsewhere....in the bedroom....office. Or just sell them and use the money somewhere else in your system.

"Bad idea" didn't really nail it for me. I search the topic before posting. If I'm not mistaken, there were several posts in the bi threads saying the tops were separate from the bottoms.

Contrary to the original post, I would have connect the top BP to the surrounds on the receiver. I would have also removed the PSW111 from the setup. If the tops could be separated from the bottoms I thought it might work. Still have not read convincing evidence that it will not work, but I leaning towards it being a bad idea. I figure somehow the tops are still tied to the bottoms even with the jumpers removed it would still create some kind of issue.

BTW, the 2000 have currently replaced my NLA in my 2ch setup. Note sure what's going to happen there. Eventually I'll have to sell something.

The 2000's have a footprint of 11"x18. Your RT55 stands seem to be as wide or wider and I would guess not as long? Is there anyway to shoehorn the 2000's in there? Maybe change the angle of the TV a bit?

That is what I would do, put those up-front....but that is a tight space. I thought my space is tight. I had to put my left speaker in front of my fireplace on the stoop. I had to make a front leg extension to balance he speaker:

No, it's not going to fit. When I cleaned them up I removed the bases instead of lugging the whole speaker to see if they would fit. In order to get the right speaker in place I would have to shift everything up the left side. That adjustment forced the left speaker into the doorway.

Just for the record, yes...I have owned these exact speakers, have tried the exact thing your talking about. Horrible sound. But if you want to give it a whirl and see for yourself, have at it.

I see nothing for you to gain in that given scenario. Plus in addition, think of how old those built in amplifiers are in the 2000p's. Trying to use them as a subwoofer you risk the possibility of over driving them with todays dynamic sound tracks. Then what will those speakers be worth if that happens ?

What if.....IN THE NAME OF AUDIO...you pulled the system/TV forward a bit on the right side. Put the right speaker just in front of the edge of the fireplace hearth. I took your photo and GIMPed the RT2000P's in the spots I am talking about. The TV would need to move forward.

Then get a Dayton Audio Sub-Link XR 2.4 GHz Wireless Audio Transmitter Receiver from parts express for your sub: http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-link-xr-24-ghz-wireless-audio-transmitter-receiver-system-for-subwoofers--300-580 and put it behind the coutch in the corner or something.

If you looked at the pictures of my system that I linked you can see how I had to put my left speaker in from of the fireplace because trying to put it to the right was too cramped. In my last house I had much more space left and right of the speakers so this new house was tough....but this is only temporary.

In the end, moving the speaker out opened up the space, offered better setero seperation from the listening position, and just flat out looked better!

Tony- you convinced me the result will not be worth it. Thanks

WL - nice try, I wish it was that easy. Although it doesn't look too bad in the photo it still won't work . In order to achieve what you suggest I would have to move everything forward at least 2 feet!

Well, its hard to get a good sense of measurement from a pic....but I thought you could get the angle you were looking for without having to pull the left speaker too far past the door way, maybe a few inches? Oh well, you have a lot of gear squeezed in there and that may be as good as it gets. At least the CS1000p worked out. Maybe one day I can find one of those to try out myself...

That new center is a beast compared to the CSi3. The weakest component now is the sub. Hopefully I can get a decent wireless sub at some point. I'm still tweaking the crossovers but all in all it's a real nice setup especially when you sit in a beanbag chair right in front.
