What is everyones opinion on the HIT 65S500? I found it at CC for $2500 NIB. Any problems with this set?

Hitachi S series is great. There's only one line above it, which is the X series, which I have not seen in any stores. Seems like a great price. The only question is, can your room handle it, and can you get 12 feet away from the screen?

I sit about 10 feet away. According to the hit website, 9 feet is minimal. Would 10 be to close?

If you can only get 10 ft away, I would go with the 57S. What price do they have on it? I'm about 10 feet away from my 57, and I'd actually like to move back another foot.
To get an idea of fit, in the System Showcase, my room is 13' wide. -
The 57 was $2100

I'd go with the 57, unless you might be changing your living conditions soon with a bigger room. You could put the $400 difference towards a Denon DVD player or an SVS sub, or whatever.

I got no responses. When you start using a digital television, you run into all kinds of new DVD player issues. -
Just about all DVD players are progressive scan. You can do some research at Crutchfield.com for DVD players. Most output 480P but Samsung makes a player which upconverts that to 1080i or 720p. DVD player prices are dropping all the time.
You will definitely want a player with at least Component out or if you can find a player with DVI out (if your TV supports it) even better.

I just bought a 57F500 (right before Christmas time). Here's what I did: Original prices at CC = $1849 and Sears = $2199. Went to Sears and had them price match CC plus 10% of the difference = $1849- $35 = $1814. Then on that day Sears was running an additional 10% of all electronics so $1814 - $181 = $1633 + tax. They were also running free delivery. The salesman rung it up and an additional $200 mail in rebate came out. So it came out to @ $1550. Put it on a Sears charge for 12 months interest free. I would definitely check out Sears and any rebates you can find online before you buy that one. Good luck! The F series is great too.Receiver = Denon AVR-3803

i have a 15 foot from my 65 and i like my seccond row for tv but on dvd the front row is great.
if you lived near me i would sell you my mits 65 for 1600 -
yea....i'd sit as far back as i can. I have a Panasonic 54 in. widescreen and i'm sitting at about 10-11 ft. away. The rule of thumb is, taking the height of the screen size and multiply that by 4-5. That should be about your optimal seating distance. The image from my Panasonic might not be as good as the Hitachi's...since they got some of the best ratings out there compared to the Toshiba lines. I'd either go for the Hitachi or check out the Toshiba line too ( they're almost a dead-on match for the Polk RTi speakers line)

I just got back from CC and they have an open box HIT 57S700 with the built in tuner for $1800! I think that I may have just made up my mind...whaddya think?
