Hi, this is my first time here so here is my question, I just bought RT800i, and I am going to buy CS400i, once I see a good deal somewhere, but my question is about PSW450 Sub... is it good sub? Some people have told me to stay away from it... Audio Rava is better deal... is that true? I like to feel the base and I am not sure how good this sub is, is it worth $300?

am running 800's and 400 up front as well, and it sounds amazing!!! you'll really enjoy it once you get that center. as for the psw450, i am in the same boat. don't know how much i love the polk subs. i have been looking at velodyne, and have heard alot of great things on the rava ( i wish i could listen to one somewhere). i eventually want an SVS, but a little more than i want to drop on a sub right now. you would probably get a better response on people's opinion's on the rava at hometheaterforum.com, but from what it sounds like it probably out-performs the 450. have you demoed the 450 yourself??? if you can do that, and if you can't 'feel' the bass, i would look elsewhere for your sub. i love polk speakers but i do think their sure lack something

CC carry's both polk and velodyne. you should have one of those around you to be able to test the differences (if you can find one with a knowledgable sales person and all the subs hooked up properly)...:D

as for the rava, i guess you can only go on reviews. i am tempted to go that route as well, but since there is no way to demo them, i can kind of leary...

I JUST THOUGHT ID SAY IVE NEVER HEARD POLKS PSW450 BUT I HAVE HEARD THE PSW350 AND PSW650 THE 350 IS A PRETTY GOOD SUB FOR AN AVERAGE ROOM BUT STILL DOSENT HAVE A HAIR RAISING EFECT IT IS HOWEVER A VERY NICE CLEAN TIGHT SOUNDING SUB. KNOW THE 650 ON THE OTHER HAND IS A MONSTER FOR ITS SIZE DUAL 10" AND 165 WATTS RMS IT WILL START TO MAKE YOU TINGLE BUT ITS PRICEY. PERSONALY THOUGH IF I HAD THE MONEY TO SPEND I WOULD LOOK INTO VELODYNE SPL OR HGS SEIRES SUBS, I HAVE A BUDDY WITH THE SPL 12 AND IT WILL NUMB YOUR BACK IF YOU WONT IT TO,THIS IS A SUB TO LOOK AT IF YOU GOT THAT KIND OF MONEY TO SPEND.

I listened to a few Polk subs (250 and 350) when sub-shopping a month ago.. They were pretty good, but for the money I think Velodyne is better.

If you have a hifi shop in the area, go check out the new Velodyne VLF series. They are a cut above the subs found in CC and the like... Much more controlled bass drivers produce tighter sound. Great if you're a big fan of music who happens to be into home theatre, as myself. Don't be scared off by the prices; you can easily get $100 off. (FYI I ended up with a VLF 810 and LOVE it).

One thing to remember when looking at subs and their specs. The first octive, sub bass, is 16-34Hz. A good sub will get to 25Hz or better. You want your system, H/T or H/S, to be able to go from 20Hz-20kHz ideally. We talk about how bose sucks because their speakers skip part of the frecuancy range, well what is a sub doing if it can only go to 28Hz, 30Hz, or even worse. It might as well be a bass speaker they are missing almost the whole first octave. The human ear supposedly can't hear below 20Hz but many can hear lower, even if you can't hear it you will feel it. Remember those hearing test in grammer school or is my age showing. Food for thought.
