Hello everyone! I just bought a MM2104 and had some questions for you all. Oh, if I ask/say something stupid it's probably because I'm a relative car audio newbie :D

First off, I'm building the box for my sub and wanted to make sure of something before I start cutting. For the volume of the box I need to subtract the displacement of the sub from the total volume to acheive the desired volume, right? So will a box with these measurements work: 14.5"x13"x9.5" with 0.75" MDF. This has an internal volume of 0.69213 cu ft. without the sub.

Next, I'm looking at the JBL BP600.1 amp to power this sub. Should this amp work well for the sub or should I go up to the BP1200.1 for more power [insert "Tim Allen 'More POWER' grunt" here] :D . One thing that I'm wondering about though is how the sub will sound through all of the various types of music I listen to (from rap to celtic). Basically, will there be too much bass (is there really such a thing :confused: ) going from a rap song where I want it to hit hard to soft jazz or some other less bass intense music?

Does anyone on here use an amp with a wired remote to control the volume of their sub? Is it worth it? What subs would you reccomend that have this feature?

Thanks for any help!

    you dont have to worry about displacement
    but try and get the volume as close to .66 as you can
    the 600.1 will be fine
    and any head unit will have a feature to turn the bass down

    ya - wired bass remote = "waste of time and money" -- and the internal resistors wear out over time which leaves u with a useless piece of junk...

    the 600.1 is enough to push two mm 2104's ... so go with it - if u want a 2nd sub in teh future, then u can keep the same amp.

    Here's the "reccomended" dimensions from polk for the MM2104 and using a calculator from www.the12volt.com the box volume is ~0.72 cu ft. :confused: So building a 0.66cu ft box I won't need to stuff the box at all?

    Box Properties
    Type Single Sealed
    Shape Rectangular
    Comment Use 3/4 inch MDF for box building material
    Enclosure details 0.66 Cubic foot

    Overall External Dimensions
    Width 15" (38.10cm)
    Width 13" (33.02cm)
    Depth 9-141/250" (24.29cm)

    Chamber 1

    Vb = 0.66 cu.ft.
    Qtc = 0.623
    QL = 20
    F3 = 66.40 Hz.
    Fill = Minimal Polyfill

    Would the BP 1200.1 safely power my single MM2104 for a couple of months? I can get it for about $40 more than the 600.1 so it may be wiser to get that now and be able to power almost any subs that I want in the future.
