On the water

Am wanting to get four db651 speakers, either a db1040 or db1240 sub, and a PA D5000.5 amp for my pontoon boat. Please suggest the right cables (and gauge) that I should run for these (not wanting to break the bank, just want a good choice for this application). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This should be the type of wire you are looking for. Tinned wire and sealed connections are the way to go in a marine environment.

Okay, I've been assured by Honda that my stock 60amp alternator will charge both batteries on the boat (adding the Blue Sea Systems Automatic charging relay), I've run the new tinned 16ga. speaker wire, received the four db651 speakers, the db1040 sub, the Kenwood KMR-D358 head unit, the PA D5000.5 amp will be here tomorrow, and I bought an 80amp in-line fuse to put in the 4ga. tinned copper battery cable I'll run for the amp. I just have to get a bare sub box that I can seal against water/moisture and get it all put in. Warmer weather can't get here soon enough!
And yes, I'll always be respectful of others on the water when it comes to volume, but the sand bar with family and friends will be a little better this year.

The factory original was a Sony Explod(ed) system that was okay for the first year, until the head unit started acting up. Then the speakers began deteriorating and falling apart.
Funny how a simple "let's replace the old stereo" wish becomes a full-on project, huh?

As above 'Ancor' has a long list of electrical & radio products selected for a harsh marine environment. Many are available at your local West Marine shop.

Yep, thanks. Got a West Marine locally, and that's where I'm getting the 4ga tinned copper battery cable. Probably a good place to get the charge/discharge relay too - I'll see what else they have.

Ancor is good stuff but I like to avoid worst marine. Jamestown distributor is a good online source. I would also consider a blue seas 285 series circuit breaker verses the inline fuse. I also believe a good moisture proof crimp is better than a soldered joint in this situation. Don't cut corners on your sealants. I recommend boatlife or 3m products.

How great is it that Polk makes outdoor speakers? ;-) I have a pair in my sunroom and another in the sauna. Great sounds every season!
