Hello fellow Polkies,
I'm picking up an RT5000 Rosewood set tomorrow and am looking at maybe doing highs (and eventually going to be moving to a place where I can do wides) and I was wondering... would RT3000p tops or F/X1000's do better as high/wides? Logic tells me the 3000 tops... I'm wanting to keep the finish matching... any other Polk speakers made with the exact same Rosewood? All I know of are the ones that come in the 5000 set I think. Thanks!!

Not really understanding what t is you want to do. The 3000p's are not ment to be separated. You use them as fronts , and any other FX series surrounds as heights or wide's.

I would also suggest you start looking for an amp to add, if your going to run more than 5 speakers off that receiver.

Looks like you are getting the set down in FL that I posted in the deals section. So, it sounds like you plan to go 9.1? I see no reason why the f/x would not go in the rear and the others in the front? Do you plan to keep the Mirage? or change over to an all Polk setup?

Strange... I responded to this, but my response is gone? O.o I don't believe I violated any forum policies... maybe I did?

Just chiming in, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere from an Audyssey rep that highs should be monopole.

Not to resurrect an old thread, but would RT3000 tops make for good highs? I believe the main issue with this is that the tops are made to work with the 3000p's lowpass filter in the base unit (pardon me if I get any terminology, or concepts inccorrect), so if I used them as highs, they may not extend as deep as say, rt55's... I guess neither have adequate mounting hardware... but the fx1000's are dipole and highs are meant, by spec, to be monopole. Guess I may just go with a pair of RT35i's and be done trying to have finish-matched highs lol. Any thoughts? I know there's a user on the forums using 3000 tops for rears... I'm curious about using them as highs.

Too big to use as highs, the height channel doesn't produce bodacious amounts of sound anyway. Go with a smaller on wall speaker or smaller bookie.
