A friend has asked me to help find a good Karaoke Machine for his daughter's Christmas present. They seem like plastic pieces of junk and the reviews agree.

Has anyone built one or can recommend a good store bought one?

Needs 2 mics, ideally wireless, I/F with ipod and maybe remote screen.

Thanks,

I have the same interest in a quality unit. The key is getting a large library of songs I think.

Good link, I like this one as you do not need a PC. Minus screen and speakers ends up about $600.

Sounds like you may be looking for something better than I'm going to suggest, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

When my daughter was about 10-11, I bought one of the PS3 karaoke games. Hooked it up through my stereo and they had a great time.

Thanks Paul, I doubt my friend will buy a PS3 or any gaming console. I provided him the 2 options I could find and let him decide. I think the player and mixing board is best options for the money. Still need monitor and speakers but in the end I think you end up with better system. His daughter is a very good singer so I see him going with full blown system. THe packaged ones you see on Amazon and B&M stores are really cheap and seem to be short lived.

Although the one from singtrix one looks very interesting.

I just picked up a Pioneer DVD-V555 off Ebay for $110 shipped.
Nice little player, plays CD-G, which is what I have.
Hook it up to your stereo & TV & your in business.

haha. I guess having to buy the entire gaming system and not just the $40 game would make it a bit more expensive. Not a good choice for someone who can actually sing and wants to use it anyway. I don't think my daughter ever played it again a single time after her birthday party.

I have one of these, but it's CD driven, not DVD. It's basically brand new and collecting dust in the basement - only used once, at a wedding. I have the Chartbuster 450 song CD catalog and two professional microphones rather than the cheaper ones that come with the unit. If you're interested send me a PM. I'm sure it could use a better home.
