Has somebody here ever covered their speakers with Vinyl Laminate?

I have a CS1 and a pair of Monitor40 Series II are on their way all black. That color is kind of boring and I was thinking about getting some Vinyl Laminate to cover them to break their color's boredom. I have seen some pics of speakers covered with the material I'm talking about and they look awesome. Will I void my warranty if I cover them. Did somebody tried this before? Can I see some pics?

If you have the means and the tools and you prefer it over the stock finish, go nuts.

I built a DIY subwoofer a few years ago using 1.5" MDF and covered it in granite look laminate counter top material. Looked decent but I also had the correct tools to eliminate the exposed edges of the laminate.

I actually did my monitor 5's in oak laminate, and stained them to match the woodwork (at the time) you can find the adhesive backed stuff on the interweb, of nearly any kind of wood you want...they come out nice.

Biglou I never owned a new Polk product and none of the replys went really into the most important part of your question.Yes you can cover or paint your speakers w/ anything you want but does it void the warranty. I would p/m Ken or call Polk customer service before I would touch either the inside which for sure would void it or the outside and my guess also it would void it. If there would be a problem and you didn't want them anymore who would want your work done on a refurbed speaker they would put back on the market.I would find out for sure either way to be on the safe side.

I've been using peel & stick veneer from these folks for years:
    http://www.tapeease.com/products.htm
One word of caution: some woods work better than others; my wife wanted something different on my latest speaker build; normally I use red oak, but this time she chose aromatic red cedar--what a disaster! the cedar is so brittle that it turned to splinters when I bent it over a round-over; had to wet it to soften so I could work it; and many of the knots popped out as soon as I unrolled the sheets; needed 6 sheets (2'x8') to do a job I thought would require three.

    Cheers, Jim

The OP asked about vinyl laminate and you guys are talking about wood veneer....hello!

BigLouis1971, vinyl laminate is a PITA and no matter what you do, it still looks like plastic. Real wood veneer will look much better in the end, but you cannot apply it on top of vinyl laminate, so are willing/able to remove the laminate first?

I asked for vinyl laminate because I don't have so much knowledge about covering speakers and I don't know of many options because of that. Whatever you recommend me that will look better that the factory speaker will be alright with me. I'm not willing to remove the factory laminate because will be too much work for me.

If you have a heat gun or hair dryer it help in removing the old vinyl. IF you do not want to remove it then I would not apply anything on top as it will LOOK TERRIBLE. and may start peeling soon afterward. IT may be a waste of money and time

You can always take them to a pro, but it'll end up costing more than if you bought better speakers to begin with.
