Any advice on which speakers would sound the best with a Yamaha rxv 673 90 watt 7 channel receiver? Room is 12 feet x 20 feet. Is anyone here running polk speakers with a yamaha receiver? I have read on some forums that the polk speakers sound a little bright with the yamaha receivers. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to Club Polk.. You may want to say what budget you are looking to spend. That size room id suggest 5.1 channel. Are they more for HT or Music ? Things like that may help..Polk has some great deals. I did mine on a low budget mint older models just for HT use & its ok for now @ under 300.00 i hope one day to upgrade when i watch more movies/tv...

I'm currently running TSi400 fronts, CS10 center, PSW111 sub and T15 surrounds with a little older Yamaha RX-V550. My room is closer to 15x15. The reciever also runs at 90 watts per channel and really does a nice job. However, I'll be upgrading receivers soon because the V550 doesn't support the latest audio formats.

Obviously I'm not running a top of the line system, but I'm pleased with the sound I'm getting out of it based on the investment I've made to this point. Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks I'll be moving to either a new Pioneer Elite SC-71 (or so) or Onkyo TX-NR717 receiver. At that point I would be able to give you a better read of how bright the Yamaha is relative to the others.

There are a lot of people here who will happily volunteer to spend your money for you (that's a good thing). They'll need some more guidance, though.

What are you looking at putting together? 2.1, 5.1, 7.1? What kind of investment are you looking to make? Do you like music or home theater? If both, what's your priority?

Thanks guys. I am most interested in home theater use. 5.1 or 7.1 will be ok. My Yamaha receiver is equipped for 7.1, but 5.1 would be ok also. Right now I am running a Polk rmsll setup across the front with 2 m2's in the rear and a Polk psw10 sub. I also have a vintage 200watt Yamaha sub that I turn on occasionally. I want to start by upgrading across the front, something in the cherry. My budget is around $700. I see the tsi400's on eBay for $399. EBay also has the rti8's for $399. Crutchfield has the cs20 center for $149. Actually I have ordered the cs20 but I could return it. Need advice on which of these 2 systems would sound best for bluray movies? Or a different setup completely. I'm not opposed to vintage Polk speakers. I like the wood fronts on the tsi400 & tsi500 as opposed to the silver front on the rti8's. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Go with the Rti-8s and the larger matching Csi-5 center. That is the better series for HT applications!

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments. Also thanks to those of you who welcomed me to Club Polk.Does anyone know if there is cherry wood behind the silver front on the rti8's? If not, which model rtia is equal to the rti8?

Also, If the center csi5 becomes too difficult to find at a good price, which other center would match the csi5? Are the Csia's series a match? Such as the csia6?

I ran the TSi400's with a CS20. Great sounding front end. If you step up to the RT series you're going to need a more powerful receiver IMO.

Thanks Chumlie. Are you still using the tsi400's? How much power does it take to run the rti8's? Anyone else out there using tsi400 or tsi500's with the cs20? Or is anyone using the rti8's and csi5? It sounds as if the rti8's are better speakers, but they may not perform well enough with my 90 watt Yamaha receiver. Just how much difference is there in the sound of these 2 choices? Remembering that 90% of use will be for bluray movies.

go with the rti's, dont push them too hard, and give them more power as you get the chance, i have rti 4's and new monitor 30's(pretty similar to tsi 100) and the rti 4 sound so much better, not that the monitors sound bad

Much thanks to everyone. I just pulled the trigger on the rti8's from the polk ebay store. Now I need either a csi5, csia4 or csia6 in cherry. Does anyone have suggestions as to which of these centers would work best with the rti8's? For watching bluray movies?
