In Iowa, don't the deer hunt the people?

Excellent setup! Here's to an eight pointer in his near future.

The hunt just ended over here in Badgerland next to you. Opening weekend was zero degrees wind chill, wicked northwest wind right in my face. Most folks hunt in tree stands in this area. We did very well although the hunt numbers were down overall for the state. Good luck.

My nephew went out for the first time with his own rifle over Thanksgiving, but didn't get anything. His dad has bagged 2x 10 point bucks this year, so I'm hoping there's some karma left over for him. Proud of my nephew passing the hunter safety course with flying colors. I'm sure you are of your grandson as well.

We're not suppose to post pics of our harvest, the last two times I did I was kindly reminded by the moderators not to do so. Out of three of us one was taken my buddy shot it so at least it was worth the effort of staying out in the -15 wind chills it was a hard time staying warm then the next day we packed it in after a couple of hours as it was cold windy and snowing, oh well at least one out of three was not to bad. Even got home in time to watch the Vikings defense blow another lead.

Interesting terminology. I had to guess but the links confirmed. Even though I should know better this is a perfect illustration of what we call, in the discipline, a focal vocabulary that centers around a certain activity or activities. To be less cryptic, I'm not a hunter so the terms are not transparent for me.

It also reminds me of a spectacular scene in the Kurosawa film Dersu Uzula, where Dersu saves Captain Vladimir Arseniev by building something mildly similar to this.

Looks like a lot of quality time is in your future!

    Enjoy it!

Looks like a nice blind! i took my son out for the first time this year and had more fun watching him that I have ever had hunting. Showing him deer sign and packing the gear around for him. I leave tonight for the tail end of the kansas season and i have a feeling im going to be very cold.
