Noob help - surrounds for LsiC / lsim 705's
Building my first home theater in a new house that will be ready in January, and I'm assembling my components. I inherited a LsiC center and have a pair of 705's ordered. I have a velodyne mini-vee 8" sub which I'll use initially, may replace later if it isn't up to the task. The theater room will be 13' 8" wide and about 23' deep and will be used 90% of the time for tv / movies.
I would appreciate advice on surrounds for this setup, it will be 7.1 (7.2 if necessary). Also, I have an Integra avr-40.2 receiver, but may use that in the family room, so suggestions on a receiver/amp would also be welcome. Also, any concerns about the current components?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the club. I try not to comment on speakers I have not heard, but will give it a shot as no one has replied.
here is a good article discussing using the lsim703 vs the 702 fx for surrounds

if you google "timber match" you will see some of the reasons that the lsic is not the ideal center for those wonderful towers you have on order. I am using an lsic with some lsi9s bookshelves and I must say I find it underwhelming. also, the lsic line is 4 ohm designed and the lsiM is claimed to be 8 ohm design so it may or may not be an issue that way.
all depends on your budget. I would sell the lsic...they are currently moving as they are discontinued and those that bought the rest of the set on closeout prices are trying to complete the set. Spend your money for the lsim 706c. then buy surrounds. try to find a store that can let you try them to save money. -
Thanks so much! I'll check out that thread and look into selling that center channel, I'm new to all this home theater stuff but want to do it right now that I'll have a dedicated room.cincycat13 wrote: »Welcome to the club. Well, I ordered the LSiM 706 to go with the 705s. I'll put the LSiC on fleabay, hope I can get a good price for it. Now I need 4 surrounds, but wondering if the 703 and 702fx are really needed? Seems like a lot of money for surrounds (~$750 per), does matching timber matter that much for surrounds? I've seen conflicting advice on google regarding that. Are their good sounding (and cheaper) in-wall alternatives, or would that kind of defeat the purpose of the money I spent on a quality front stage?

wow...gotta love typos - timber = wood ... timbre = tone quality. either way congrats on the fronts. I would definitely try to pick up some used RT family surrounds or bookshelf sized ones from Craigslist or Fleabay and let my ears be the judge. You would be able to flip them if you were not satisfied. I was gonna say you could try the LSiC and see what you thought before deciding, but I think you made the best decision there.

Thanks again Cindy. I found what I thought was a good deal on Fleabay for the 702FX, so I bought 2 pair of them for my surroundsand backs. Pretty much done with speakers now, although I may replace sub in the future. I'm now focusing on figuring out what amp/receiver combination to go with, leaning toward an Onkyo 818 to drive the surrounds and then a 3 channel amp for the fronts...I just have no idea what amp to get, hope to get a chance to demo some next weekend.
