I have an Elton John concert BR disc recorded in DTSMA. Think it was Pinball wizard...possibly recorded in Vegas. The Audio is not good at all. Listened to it once....and in the cabinet it sits.

Hope you have better luck with yours Fox.

Cool BF. It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on the BD-A. I have the SACD as well, and as most know that have any of EJ's SACDs they're very well done. I'm curious to see how this version stacks up, please keep us posted...

    Just ripped,

    Neil Young - Psychedelic Pill

    51iS5rY5YiL._SY300__PJautoripBadge,BottomRight,4,-40_OU11__.jpg

This had two LPCM file options; 96/24 and 192/24. This is the first BR Audio I have seen with 192/24, and this is what I ripped to FLAC. It seemed to take forever to copy the BR to the hard drive, and then rip the files, but now I am enjoying the music. I also have this on CD, so I need to rip it so that I can do an A/B between tracks.

I'm running the Oppo 103 via HDMI to an SC-61. The 103 player is not noted for having a particularly great DAC, so you're likely better off with HDMI using the Pioneer's DAC.

Anyone have any bad experiences with any Blu Ray audio discs yet?

I am thinking of picking up a few but not sure yet.

There are some very good ones and some not so good with the HFPA (high fidelity pure audio). It pays to do your home work and search places like Club Polk, AVS, blu-ray.com for reviews before buying. Have fun!

What do you mean by bad experiences? The worst experience I have occurs with every disc. I have to enter the song title for each disc I rip. Other than that I love them.

Seriously, the more we support high-res formats, the more music will be released as high-res.

I had "Night at the Opera" on DTS, didn't care for it much. The blu-ray format though for hi-rez music has legs imho. Everyone already has a player, nothing else to buy to enjoy the higher rez formats.

Good point, but what about the rest of the system? That would be a good test for Monk. Have an inexpensive home theater compete with a better HT for any sonic differences.

Skip, While I can agree with your assertions, the BR format offers one thing streaming music doesn't....video. Great for concert discs and no real further investment needed. That's appealing to some on a low budget which also appears to be more and more people these days. While streaming is the wave of the future, good quality isn't as easy or cheap yet. Plus for some older folks it's a tad more complicated than what they are used to. SACD was suppose to be a dead format too, along with vinyl and reel to reel. There's room for everyone and a variety of formats.

No. Seems to be a defective disk. I almost read it twice, but it stopped after some period with read errors. I tried cleaning it up, but after that it never was recognized. Amazon has already shipped the replacement disk so will soon find out if it works.

I can't name one person other than BlueFox who plays at Ultra-hifi levels that invests in BD audio. Even then, BF rips them to a drive, so its sort of counter-intuitive.

Until they are available for download it is the only way to get high-res for some titles. But yes, eventually physical media for anything will soon be a niche for a few hold outs. More than likely, CDs will be made from down sampled high res files, and sold by small specialty vendors.
