NAD 2200 power amplifier, make offer....

If anyone is in need of amplification, this one puts out 100wpc with 6dbs of headroom. No fans and runs cool. Near mint with original box and manual. I'm picking up a pair of SDA-1c's and need funds. I won't give it away, but make me a reasonable offer. Here's a tidbit from NAD's original brochure......

Reproducing musical signals, the NAD 2200 routinely delivers over 500 watts per channel into typical
loudspeaker impedances.
In actual measurement with speakers of complex impedance and lower-than-average sensitivity, the
2200 produces peak sound pressure levels exceeding 115 dB SPL(Sound Pressure Level) in a medium to

I was looking to get around $220 including shipping, but again, I'm flexible. It is near mint other than a small ding in the lower right corner of the faceplate. This can't be seen unless it's mounted on the top of a rack. Other than that there are no scratches or dings anywhere, it works and sounds excellent. I'll take some pics and post them this evening.

I just got a response back from McIntosh and they stated my MC2100 will not support common ground between channels so I'll have to keep the NAD to use on my newly aquired (being shipped as we speak) SDA-1C's. I also emailed NAD about the common ground issue and didn't get a reply yet. Does anyone know if these support common ground. Thanks for the interest in the amp btw.

Back and forth, back and forth..........well the McIntosh tech got back to me again and said he made a mistake and only the newer mac amps can't be used with common ground, mine is fine.

When I get those sda-1c's setup I'm going to run them with both the Mcintosh and the Nad. If someone is still interested in the Nad, let me know.

Do you have either of the SDA interconnects? If you don't have the SDA A1-I, which is most likely, make one, and then your amplifier issue is solved.

Why sell an amplifer because of not having a DIY $50 cable? Is that what prompted the sale?

The reason for the sale of the NAD is I really don't need an extra amplifier laying around and not being used. The McIntosh has been in the family for many years and I could never sell it. I originally intended to use the Mcintosh on the sda's, but as I stated earlier it looked like it would not be a common ground amplfier ( I have since found out it is common ground). Polk also states the sda-a1i cable can only be used on sda-1c's with a serial number of 6000 and higher. The sda's will be here thursday and I would have verified the serial number then, but now it's not even an issue, both amps will work with the standard cable.

As I stated earlier, if someone else has a use for the NAD, it's up for grabs, or I'll probabally auction it on "that site" if no one here can use it. Thanks for any interest.

As long as I have owned audio equipment, I have always gone the route of an A/V Receiver. Currently, I own a NAD T761 A/V receiver. Can someone explain what the benefit would be to adding an amp such as this to the NAD receiver? The receiver has pre-outs for all channels. Could I use this amp to bi-amp the RTi70s? Would there be any benefit in that? Excuse my ignorance, but I don't know much when it comes to receiver vs. separates vs. a combination of both.

I'm going to reply not to promote the sale of my amp, but to shed a little insight in your question. The main reason for using seperate components from a manufacturers standpoint is power and room. In a receiver, you usually have one power supply that is feeding the preamp, amplifier, and the tuner. Add in the steering circuitry for A/V and you can imagine the limitations and load the power supply has to deal with. Some compromises have to be made in power output ,heat disapation, and yes, sound quality etc. There are some very good sounding A/V receivers out there for music, but they are the exception rather than the rule and often cost more than decent seperates, especially used would cost.

Do you need a separate power amp. This depends on a few things. Do you mainly use your receivers surround mode for movies or do you listen more to music ? How loud do you like to listen to either movies or music. If you don't run your receiver hard for movies and or have a powered sub, you probabally don't need a seperate power amp. If you don't have a powered sub and listen fairly loud, there is a chance of hurting your speakers during unplanned loud passages on movie soundtracks. This is caused by clipping or distortion of the amp. Distortion damages speakers, clean power doesn't. In a nutshell a seperate power amp will have an easy load to drive with your speakers as long as it has more power than your receiver. You would definately get improved sound quality for music as well. If you are happy with your current setup and don't push it hard, I wouldn't upgrade. Once you get the upgrade bug btw it's hard to stop, lol! This is just one opinion and hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply. I am very happy with my setup and now I know the benefits of an amp. I do have a powered subwoofer (SVS PB1-ISD) and do not really drive the system hard. I do however, always have the upgrade bug. In fact, I was thinking of upgrading to one of the later NAD receivers. If I could get rid of this upgrade bug, I'd be better off!

There is an NAD 2200 on ebay that has probs. I put in a bid of $25 just incase no one bids on it. The seller mentioned it doesn't have sound unless you turn up the preamp, then the amp kicks in. Iv'e read some of these had bad output relays, mostly just bad solder joints that need to be reheated to flow the solder. The simptoms are exactly what he is describing. Many just replace the relays, and most of the time it's just the solder joints, not the relays. Others just simply bypass the relays with jumpers. I would gladly bow out of the bidding if you think you'd like to tackle this one. When I bought mine, I was going to look for another for a biamping plan I had in mind but decided not to mainly for space reasons. Just too much gear. As far as my NAD, I still want to try it on the SDA's when I get them on Thursday. Sometimes you put some gear together and luck out and get perfect synergy. If I don't try it I'll always wonder how the combo would have sounded.................anyway, you have 1st dibs. Regards.

Here's the link to that amp on ebay. The bidding started at $25 and that's all I bid, no higher proxy bid or anything. Two of these bridged would run pretty well, plus they have that smooth midrange that was so rare in their price range at the time they came out.
