CL score, I think

So I spot what looks like a good deal on CL, a pair of RT55s for $50. I make the call and discuss their condition. The guys says besides being a little dirty his little guy poked one tweeter with a pen but it had no impact on the sound. He sends a picture to my cell. My phone is a little newer than the speakers, so the picture doesn't help much. I decide to make the 50 mile trip anyway.

When I get there he has everything in a garage. We hook them up for a listen and I check out their condition. I'm leaning towards buying them when the guys says "since the tweeters not quite right I'll throw in a pair of speaker stands". That was good enough for me and I agree.

Now the conversation switches to other things and eventually comes back to speakers again. It turns out he has a couple other things he is considering parting with. One is a csi3 that is mint, the other is a very dirty peeling set of towers that are facing the wall. I wasn't really interested but said let's hook them up for a listen. They sounded ok... until he plugged them in, then the sounded much better. Then he tells me there rt1000s. I not familiar with the model but the sounded better than the 55s, a lot better! Now I'm having second thoughts. All kinds of things are running through my head including the WAF. I explain to him I really don't need them, I'm pretty sure they will fail the WAF and I only have $200 on me. Next thing I know we're loading everything into the truck. RT1000s for the fronts, RT55s with stands for the rears and a Csi3 for the center.

I get home and unload everything into the man cave. I hookup the towers, turn on Pandora, select Robert Cray, and grab a cold one. Wow, these thing sound really good to me. I grab the iPad to do some research. Something not right, these thing don,t look like the RT1000 I'm seeing on the internet. I dig a little further and sure enough they are not. They are RT2000s!

I think I did pretty good tonight. What do you think. I'll post pictures after I clean them up a bit. There going to need some work especially the black felt like material on the fronts. Any suggestions on replacing that stuff would be greatly appreciated.

Good score. RT55's are some of the best "bookshelf" speakers Polk has ever made in the normal range.

These speakers sound fine to me. I can't tell if there is an issue with the tweeters or not. What do you think?

The stands seem pretty good also. The are metal, hollow in the center so you can add sand, and they are spiked. There are a few spots where there is some rust and blisters. A little sanding and a coat of paint and they'll be fine.

They look pretty good and sound great. In addition to the ugly baffle trip, there is another suspect tweeter. For now I'm just going to run a bead of Aleetnse's and glue down the trim.

There is also some white streaks on the grill cloth. Does anyone have a suggestion for removing theses?
