mW6510s into Monitor 7s
I know this might ought to be in vintage but there isn't much going on over there. I posted the question in a different sort of way and got one reply with all the specs of several different drivers. 6500 not one of them. However 6503 was included (the replacement recommended for my 6500s).
So anyway, I have a pair of nice Monitor 7s with the peerless tweeters and bad mid woofers. I found an 8T with 2 good drivers to replace my frozen cone 6500s. Is this a good move? Up, down, sideways? The Q, BL, and other specs don't really help except to see how close one is to the other since I don't know what it all means. I think they sound pretty darn good with the 6510s but I never heard them with the originals.

The 6500 and 6510 are close enough to use until you find some 6500's.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks, so what you're saying is I won't really be hearing the Monitor 7s as they should be heard until I get the 6500s. That's what I thought. But what about the 6503s then. I guess they may not be the same as 6500s either.

6510 can replace 6500, right?

I would call it a short term substitute.Political Correctness'.........defined

If they will do untill I get some 6500s and therefore a short term substitute, please explain why not a permanent substitute? What could be gained by having the originals? I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand more where this is coming from. Is it based on purely to keep it original. Is it a fact that the sound will be better with 6500s? Please elaborate.

So they will sound exactly like they were designed to sound. Polk didn't go thru all the time and money required to design and have built the many different drivers just for the hell of it.Political Correctness'.........defined

Well alright then. I'll be looking for 6500s. The Monitor 7 deserves them being regarded as the best sounding of the Monitor series by Mr. Polk himself. Correct?
