Yep, I had them Monitor 12's.

I had both at the same time and I preferred M12 over M10 with peerless.
Both pairs had original crossover so can't say how they compare after upgrade but M12 had better/open/forward mids and smoother highs. Also bass was louder. I couldn't test bass part properly due to small space but overall M12 hands down.

Your impressions are different (notice, not saying wrong) than most comparisons I've seen between the two. The M12 is generally considered the CV of the Polk lineup - overemphasis of the bass and sloppy everywhere. I wouldn't know because I haven't even seen M12's in person.

The only thing I don't like on most Polk speakers I had/have is not enough mids (or mids is recessed) for my taste.
They have great highs and bass but those two overwhelm mids.
When I first listened to M12, the mids I was looking was there and same goes with 3.1TL's.
M12 and 3.1TL's both had much better/open mids than other models I had.
I sold them due to lack of space but otherwise they had good enough mids and great highs/lows to keep them.

And there is always the comment of 'Upgrade first and compare' but I don't have only one pair of speaker to upgrade it top to bottom spending much more than what I paid for them just to test.

Aren't MIDS supposed to be the STRENGTH of Polk speakers? Never heard many complain about the mids on a pair of Monitor 5s or 7s, ever! And, I might suggest a hearing test? Perhaps you need "boosted" mids?

I'd say it's BASS that you're after if you think the 12s are better than the 10s? But that's just my opinion, of course!

Haven't been to a doctor's office since last 4 years even though I pay $700 per month on health insurance so I guess it's time for a checkup.

But seriously, Polk 4,5,7,10 etc... plus many others I owned are fine speakers on their own but once I got Boston A400's and Vandersteen's, I found that I prefer them.
The later ones are not bass heavy so bass is not only thing I'm looking for.
In fact, SDA-2B's bass is hard to beat and I really like that part on the 2B's.

JBL L100T's sounded great as well but little bit too much metallic tone on the highs/mids.
My next favorite is B&W DM602.

I have some JBL L80Ts I bought new back in the day. Put a nice "tube" amp on them and you won't hear "anything" metallic. The 100s simply have more bass slam but otherwise sound very similar. I know, folk around here don't like JBLs but the L80Ts are here to stay.

The Bostons are nice too. I have some A100s and while they have OK mids I wouldn't say they were great there. But then again, yours have a dedicated mid range driver and bigger cabs so I can imagine they would be much better there!

Have to love those health premiums. Are you self-employed or single? Because the average family plan for HC is around 400-500 a month with your employer kicking in the same amount; so 800-1000 a month. And Americans think a free market in health care will help them get cheaper care. lol That's very funny! Free markets in "health", nice joke. Yeah, they'll voluntarily give up "profits" when I die!

I once had an entire class of Pre Med students who went "ballistic" when I suggested that perhaps we should pay M.D.s less, that maybe they were overvalued? 50 percent of them were ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY! That's who "I" want to be my Doctor, NOT! And then there are Hospital Administrators whose salaries are Astronomical, and hospital costs that are OFF the charts, and Big Pharma that pushes mega drugs into the market before they are really SAFE, and Insurance companies that LOVE their "profits" and that is the Market and it's killing us with profits! Or as Mr. Rogers might have said: can you spell MONOPOLY! lol

    cnh,
    I've heard A40, A70, A100 and A150, and A400 is far better.
A70 and A150 is very well regarded but A400's is in another league.

I do have a pair of L80t3 waiting for woofer re-foam.
The 3 supposedly has smoother highs due to crossover mod (and slightly different tweeter 35tia vs 35ti).

Tube bug hasn't bitten me yet but I guess it's just a matter of time.

    Off topic on health but...
I'm full-time employee but it's through a consulting company so they don't pay anything on my behalf.
Me and wife's premium is close to $700 and has bad out of pocket deductions.
I need to find a better job with some benefits.
I checked Obamacare site (CO health site) and it's funny that I don't get any subsidies due to the household income range.
I think I actually have to pay even more so there goes that in the drain.
    No benefit for me.

To continue on health rant... couldn't edit that post by the time I submitted it.

So just in last 4 years (since 2009) alone (I've paid insurance on my own since 1998), I paid roughly $675 * 12 * 4 = $32,400 in health insurance premiums and have not had a single doctor's visit.
Wife had few but nothing that cost over $2000 total.
I wonder if we were better off not having insurance at all but it's just the risk of something major that makes us pay that much.
$32,400 = many Polk SDA's plus many amps plus many other things...

I hear you. Up until last year when my HMO had to cover about 15K+ for torn Achilles surgery, my wife and I were mostly regular visits that had a $500 dollar deductible (which given the current state of affairs, I would imagine is not really that bad). But I have hypertension so I save on drugs ($10 per).

In any case, regardless, you SHOULD be doing at least ONE PHYSICAL a year with complete blood work, etc. Don't let your age keep you from preventive steps and requirements! Don't get "surprised" later!

Medical care in this country needs a total overhaul. And I don't think either side has it figured out. Free market boys don't understand how the actual system functions and has functioned up to now. It is NOT beholden to the market forces they believe in but is actually cannibalizing any "competition". And Obama care does not regulate what it SHOULD, leaves too much room for maneuvering on the part of an industry that is ALL to aware of just how to keep profit margins in the stratosphere. I'm afraid no one has a good solution to what needs to be held in CHECK!

It only goes to show you just HOW powerful the Health care industry is in this country. Short of a revolution, you CANNOT reform it! And who is talking about that? Dems? NO! Republicans? NO! Indies, libertarians, anarchists, NO? lol

Mine was cheaper under the free market. Just went up 36% under BOZO care.
