Boston without Brad Delp, meh...
-
Maybe I'm a strange one here but the last Boston album I had was Walk On, heck, I thought it was pretty good, even without Delp...Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

Tell us how you really feel! -

Have to agree on this one. Tom + Brad = Magic. Take one away and you don't have it anymore. I even thought RTZ with Brad Delp was pretty good back in the day, but it was still no Boston.
I listened to a few of the clips from this new release on Amazon - the Boston "sound" is somewhat there, but the vocals are lacking.Speakers

Barry Goudreau's voice is extremely close to Brad Delp. Looks like Delp's voice is in some of the tracks:

His voice is good, but for some reason it seems like this one and the album before have over synthesized or digitized the vocals. You compare the vocal sound to their earlier albums and the voices were clearer then. Now they seem to have somewhat muddied them to make them sound "better" - even the new tracks with Delp (must be older recordings though as he has passed). Personally, I think I would like it more if the vocals weren't so digitized (for lack of a better word). And of course, get rid of the chick singing - doesn't fit one bit to me.Speakers

"Boston" as a musical entity was always all about Tom Scholz and studio (actually more like recording/engineering) gimmickry. I liked their first album, too, when it was new and I was young. I don't think anything about it's really stood 'the test of time'. Scholz built the first album piece by piece (I almost typed "bit by bit", but that means something different today!).
When their eponymous album was new, I had a kitteh that liked to sit on the bed & listen to music. She liked most of my rekkids, but she left whenever I played Boston. It was a rather screechy recording... probably better enjoyed on eight-track, indeed.
I'm curbing my enthusiasm; y'all enjoy it, though. -

That's it! I was listening to Polk Audio Monitor Series Model 7As...
;-)
In all fairness, I should dig out Boston again sometime and see what it's like on the Duplexes. It is old enough (barely) that it might've been mastered on Duplexes (or Ureis, their immediate descendants). Prolly JBLs, though... it sounds like JBLs to me (at least, my purchased-new in 1976 orange label Columbia does). -

Ha! I remember Craig 6x9 speakers in the rear dash! Didn't these have the "liquid cooled" tweeters back then or was it another brand? Wow, what days to remember, "liquid cooled" back then was a really cool "wow" factor...Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me -
Definitely a few years of age difference here. For some of us, Boston slides down that slope of what is the decline of memorable music that becomes the '80s. Their sound was always too "thin" for me, nothing grabbed me, kinda like pop musac. But hey, I can spend hours listening to Japanese flute music, Chinese erhu and pipa, etc. Love me some Mid-eastern tunes, African vibes like King Sunny Ade, Cape Verde--Cesaria Evora, Gypsy Punk--Gogol Bordello, Manu Chao and on and on.
I typed most of my University research papers to the tunes of LA MEGA FM 97.9. Hit me with those salsa beats, make me move my hands and feet(s)?
It's all pretty much a matter of taste, I suppose.

And you really thought I was kidding about the 8 track tape! A true audiophile may let the '70 Boss Mustang go to help pay for college, however you keep the tapes! Actually, I don't know why I still have these!DKG999

My 8-tracks have all disintegrated due to poor storage (not at my house)...
heck, I don't even have my CB radio any more ;-)
Note that I didn't say I that I don't have any CB radios anymore... just not my 1977 vintage Panasonic mobubble nor my hand-me-down, early-h1960s vintage RCA base station.
... and I wouldn't admit that just anywhere... -
Does anyone remember C.W. McCall? Ya, I've got a greatest hits CD that I bought years ago, lots of 8 tracks and, yes, some CB radios.
Just remembered, the 6x9 speakers I remember were the Becker brand label from the 80's, I think...Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me -
C.W. McCall is better known to an audiophile crowd than you might think :-)

Wow, the old Led Zep PINK plastic Atlantic label 8-tracks! If I remember correctly, weren't the Jethro Tull 8-tracks green plastic?Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support
group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.

8 tracks? Really? I think I blinked my eyes and 8 tracks disappeared. My sister had a portable player (she was much younger) but I couldn't be bothered. I went directly to cassettes.

They were big from the very late 1960s until cassettes pushed 'em out of car audio in the very early 1980s. Maybe you were busy gettin 'educated :-) I was in the thick of that world in those heady times ;-)

Ah, there it is, AUTOS! My father drove a 1960 Chrysler, Windsor--no 8 tracks in there! He drove that until we bought a Plymouth Duster in '72--a base model with no tape player, no A/C, etc.
I learned to drive on the Chrysler which was a used purchase. '70s, yeah, I was an undergrad, and a "poor" one at that!

cool car - that could've had an underdash 45 rpm record player in it! :-)

I never had any Craig 6 X 9's but I had quite a few Jensen Triaxial 6 X 9's. I still think I have a NOS (brand new in the box) Craig PowerPlay amp ( 12 watts/channel). That's all I have though. Off topic but that Chrysler had a space age command domed instrument panel behind the steering wheel and a PUSH BUTTON Auto Transmission with a power antenna and a power back window you could fully retract. At night the panel lit up like some '50s space ship control center, as did all the push buttons. lol

OK, Lawrence Welk had his in a deSoto... but that was a Chrysler marque back in the nifty fifties ;-)

The perfect combo back in the early 80's was Craig decks, and Jensen speakers.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
