I believe if you reset the modem via the small reset button (usually recessed) you can use the WEP key on the modem again.

There should be a reset button on the back or bottom, after the router is powered all the way up hold this button in for 20 to 30 seconds this should restore the router to factory defaults and allow you to run the setup wizard to reconfigure the router. You will need to have your PC hard wired to the router to run this. The login is admin and the password is password this is all in lower case. Hope this helps.

The router IP address is 192.168.1.1, hook up your computer with an Ethernet cable and open your internet browser and use this address to access the router. The login and password are the same as I stated above admin and password. This should give you access to the setup page. Or you can be like me and live in the middle of nowhere and not worry about security because my nearest neighbor is three and a half miles away. And I'm three hundred yards to the road. So I don't worry about anyone using my connection.

You can also navigate to routerlogin.net and that will bring you to the login screen as well. Easy to remember.

I know you had WEP security before, but it is highly recommended that you use WPA-2 Personal as that is latest standard for wireless security. WEP security can be broken by hackers in your neighborhood and it is the earliest form of wireless security. Once you change the security type, you will need to login to all your wireless devices and reconnect using the new security scheme and connection passcode. You will need to make sure though that all your other wireless devices can handle WPA-2. Anything built after 2006 should be able to. If you have older devices, it would be recommended to use WPA over WEP.

I also change the default SSID so that it's more meaningful to me and family when they come visit and want internet access for their devices. It helps when you are in a crowded subdivision and everyone has a router broadcasting around you. But if you live on 40 acres, probably not needed. You can change all the above per the manual on pages 24-25.
