Help on Subwoofer - Receiver Setting - Polk Tsi400 | Polk PSW10 | Polk CS10 | Pioneer

Hi,

My Home Theater System goes like this..

Initially I had Engergy Micro 5.1 setup with Polk PSW10 subwoofer with Pioneer 1021-K. When I had that setup my subwoofer was working fine. Recently I upgraded Front speakers and center channel and now my Subwoofer is NOT working anymore. That means I am not getting any output from Subwoofer. I am thinking because that frequency is covered by my floor standing speakers.

My Home Theater Setup:
Receiver : Pioneer 1021-K
Floor Standing Speakers (Left and Right) - Polk Tsi400
Center Channel : Polk CS10
Subwoofer : Polk PSW10
Surround Speakers : Energy Micro Speakers

TV - Samsung D6050/D6000 - 55" LED

When I did little research on Frequency Range, I got this info below. So how do I overcome my issue to work with Subwoofer.

Speakers - Polk Tsi400
Frequency response: 34-25KHz

Subwoofer - Polk PSW100
Frequency Response Curve 35 Hz - 200 Hz

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Sriks

How is the subwoofer hooked up ? You would need to connect the speakers to the receiver, and use the sub-out and connect the subwoofer with a rca cable. Use the crossover in the receiver and turn the one on the sub all the way up. You then need to adjust your settings in the receiver.

Your sub however isn't going to add much with those speakers, you may want to upgrade that soon too.

Best guess is your AVR set those speakers to large, and probably set the cross-over somewhere around 60 Hz. I would check those 2 settings, and set the 400's to small, as well as any other speakers set to large, and set you cross-over to 80Hz. It will take some strain off of your AVR, but I really don't see a big improvement in sound quality.

You really should consider a more capable sub. Look for something that dig into the low 20 Hz range, or lower. I would suggest something from HSU, your on a budget. Plan on around $600 or so, if buying new.

you may need to change the crossover setting in your Receiver, put your floor standing above 80hz or above

Source is Polk Audio manual PSW10/PSW12
    OPTION #1
    —
Receivers that include a “Sub Out” feature—the most common hookup method with
    Dolby Digital receivers.
    PSW10—
    NOTE:
The PSW10 subwoofer does not have an LFE input. Instead, use either the
L or R Line input (another hookup option is to use a Y-split cable and connect both
L and R Line inputs). After you make this Sub Out connection, turn the "Low Pass"
filter fully clockwise. This will in effect create an LFE input.
    • Connect all speakers directly to the receiver. When using method #1, adjust
your receiver’s speaker configurations as follows: Set Front, Center and Surround
    speakers to “small.”
    • Depending on your speakers’ bass output capabilities, set the crossover frequency
on the receiver to 80Hz for tower and bookshelf speakers (speakers with a woofer
5 1/4" in diameter or larger) and 100-120Hz for satellite speakers.
    •Receiver Settings:
    • Front, Center, and Surrounds = “SMALL”
    • Subwoofer = “ON,” or “YES,” or “PRESENT”
How to access Advanced MCACC Menu You can skip page 58 if you already know how to access the MCACC Menu and start on lower right of page 64 "Speaker Setting".

Thank you All for your time.

    Jerry,
Finally your solutions worked. I bought Y-split and turned low pass to Maximum and finally I could able to hear something on Sub. But still it was not as good as before. But that works for now.
Appreciate your time and help on this.

    Thanks
