Pioneer SC-63

Hey, folks. I plan on turning a bonus room into a home theater room with some nicer, higher end equipment.
Downstairs in the living room, I was planning to do something more modest...not a full on rig. A 50" LG Plasma TV, and a spare Polk Cs400 center. I'd just have to look for a couple of speakers and probably keep it at 3.1 setup.
So today, I saw an open box Pioneer Elite SC-63. Missing power cord and remote. Price - A good bit under $500.
A price point to consider, or is this overkill, and I should find something less expensive?

Without the remote it's basically a boat anchor.Political Correctness'.........defined

Just looked it up...$56.75 for a remote....Puts the total cost of it in the low $500's.

Might want to double check to make sure this is indeed the proper remote. -

That's cheap enough. What about the mic?Political Correctness'.........defined

Nice! Thanks, Hermitism. -
Do the mics do anything someone can't do manually with an SPL meter?afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

It's not the mic itself, it's the auto calibration that needs the mic. Yes, you could do it yourself and usually you'd have to tweek the settings anyway after the auto calibration. In the end, you use settings that sound good to your ear anyway.HT SYSTEM-

Can you use different mics for calibrating different receivers? If so, you might be able to wait until you set up the bonus room, and use a the mic from that receiver. Personally, with 3.1 I'd settle for doing it by ear, as that's how it'll end up anyway.Polk Fronts: RTi A7's

Good question, I'm not 100% on it, but I would think the software for the auto calibration in a receiver is also calibrated to be used with a certain mic. Using a different one may....or may not throw it off some.HT SYSTEM-

usually not unless you calibrate to the unit...My 3805 did have instructions that you would use to calibrate A non Denon mic. -
Thanks!

Don't wait too long, this seems to be a no-brainer.
And definitely try to talk them down some more. I got $30 off a Denon 3312ci already marked at $479, no manual or power cord either (big deal, the stock PC gets rubber-banded and thrown in my junk drawer anyway...). The fact that the remote was missing also gave some leverage, but the kid in the Magnolia room found a Denon remote for me to try, so I took it home; would up with a remote for a 43xx series that does even more than the OEM one did.So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
