edited November 2013 in 2 Channel Audio
Amp= Conrad Johnson MF2200 (solidstate)
Pre= Conrad Johnson PV2 (tube)

When I turn on there is no sound for about 30 seconds or so. Then it kiicks in. Previously it was doing this but only in left channel.

After sound starts all is fine.

Any ideas??

    How long have you had the preamp? Reason I ask is some tube equipment need a brief warmup.

    I have had the preamp for a year or two. I always turn on the pre first. I turned on and then waited a few minutes till I powered up the amp and still problem. I think it is the amp.

    Any way you can swap an amp or a preamp? I haven't used any tube equipment but could this be a tube going out?

    Let the pre warm up 30 minutes before turning on the amp...tubes need to get to ramp up their temp before they can operate properly. That might be the whole prob.

    Is there a relay in the amp circuit? Relays have a tendency to age and can cause such symptoms due to dirty contacts or mechanical wear or sticky lubricants.

    Definitely sounds like a problem with the amplifier output relay, or aging component in the relay driver circuit.

    This could be normal operation, and when only the left channel was doing this then that was wrong. My Cambridge-Audio 840W amps were the same way. Turn on, and they went through some initialization phase before starting to play.

    Yep. Relay in the amp.

    Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
    "I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
    My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....
