It was mentioned on the news last night that there have been dog deaths attributed to dog treats(some looked like chew toys) originating in China. Apparently there is a federal investigation going on now after hundreds of dogs have died and thousands have gotten sick. Please__, please__ check the packaging of any dog treats you may have and see if they are from China. At this point, it sounds like the investigation hasn't mentioned any specific manufacturers names yet. Has anybody's dog or dogs been acting sick lately, it sounds like some dogs are healthy enough to only get digestive problems and other dogs symptoms are more severe like kidney failure and eventual death.

China and poison food go hand in hand this is not the first time nor will it be the last. I don't buy any dog treats from the store for this very reason as a large amount of it is made in China and they don't care who or what they kill off with there crap.

They have been talking about this on the dog boards for quite sometime but as far as I know the FDA has not forced a recall unlike the issue they had a few years ago with the poison dog food.

    Already been through it.
18 months ago my dog got sick, throwing up and going all the time.
Took him to the vet- he had renal failure. They put him on IV for 5 days,
and then sent him home and told us he was going to die.
The next day he started bouncing back. The wife feeds him Renal healthy
prescription food now, along with homemade stuff she fixes him.
The day before he fell sick the wife had bought him some chews.
Made in China, and listed as one of the suspect products.
So this all really gives me a warm and fuzzy about Chinese poultry products they
    want to import for humans.

The reason there has been no recall is they cannot pin it on any one substance. So far it has been in the duck, chicken, turkey and beef items, so what ever it is it disappears from the animal very quickly as all necropsy has been void of anything that jumps to the forefront.

Me I just give my dogs and cat good stuff that I know where it has been. the only treat my guys and gals get is a nice warm home good food and fresh water.

WE SHOULD NOT IMPORT ANY FOOD ITEM FROM CHINA...

Yet every time you turn around someone is pushing to do this.
Read all labels. You'd be surprised. Bagged shrimp? From Vietnam.
Jam, from Turkey. Brand name or not, better bring your magnifying glass and
read the label. That info is in very small letters.

You know....I am normally a pretty open-market type of person when it comes to most products, but any FOOD product....forget it. God knows what these other countries put in food, and we spend billions a year as a nation subsidizing farmers and agriculture in this country. Maybe we can ship our dead dogs back to China and they can be used for....well, you know where I'm going with this one....

Also, be careful about microwaving in coffee cups, bowls/plates made in China. Alot of Chinese ceramicware has dangerous coatings to make them shiny.

I just think we can now get processed pre cooked chicken from China and it is not longer required to have the country of origin on the lable.

Yeah, my wife switched to some new dog food a while back that is supposed to be better for them as a result of all this crap.

That said in all honesty we feed them our leftovers since we never seem to eat them, and the dogs dont care if they are a day or two old.

Rather feed it to them (the stuff that I can that is) than junk it in the garbage.

I boil up chickens, brown rice, green beans, and carrots for my boxers. Make up a large pot and freeze individual servings.

We also cook beef and chicken livers and mix in a couple table spoons with there meals.

Get real pig ears and bones from the butcher shop. Sounds crazy but they are my dogs.

Not crazy at all. Mine gets crockpot chicken with carrots, celery, tomatoes, garlic, and some potatoes. Cottage cheese as a treat too with some flax seed oil mixed in for the old girls heart. Any vet will tell you cottage cheese is very good for dogs, and to cook for them when you can.

Just saw a news article today about protecting your dogs from canine influenza. Apparently, dogs get this only from other dogs( humans can't get it from their dogs). And the vets have flu shots for dogs to protect them. The news article mentioned to avoid taking your dog around areas where they would come in contact with many other dogs, such as a dog park, kennels, pet smart, and try to spend as little time at the vet clinic. It sounded like most dogs that do get sick , make it through it,very few have died.
