This is the last remaining piece of my desktop rig and needs a new home. This converts USB from a computer into a cleaner digital signal that a DAC can then convert over to analog, and is better than the USB inputs on most DACs out there.

I did a comparison between several models (thread linked below) and ended up keeping this one. As mentioned elsewhere though, I'm stepping things up with the headphone rig and am no longer going to be using a computer at all in the chain so this piece is ready for a new home.

It sounds great, is in perfect condition and comes with original box and accessories. as an added bonus, I'll include the Audioquest Forest USB cable I was using with it and the short coax cable I used to connect it to the DAC.

$150 gets this shipped anywhere in the lower 48.

I'm open to trades as well. A couple of things in particular I'm looking for are a pair of OWM5 and a good chef knife, kinda random but thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm really close to pulling the trigger on the Peachtree DAC it that daboyz has for sale here. Could you summarize what I would be gaining by adding this to it. Sorry but I'm a complete noob to all the streaming from computer world and have read the various threads here on the forum but still trying to understand the subtleties.

I'm running a stock HP lower level all purpose pc running windows 7 with 10MB memory and an external 1GB Seagate harddrive that will hold my music files after I burn them. I'm probably going to replace the on board sound with a basic soundblaster with optical out that would then go to the DAC it. Am I better off going out with usb into this X1 and why?

You get a couple things actually, support for higher resolution music which only matters if you have hi-res files and more important better sound across the board. Having a good converter like this results in lower jitter, which results in better sound quality.

It's hard to give a better explanation without writing an article on how audio over USB works and the differences between adaptive and asynchronous connections, but suffice it to say that an asynchronous connection almost always sounds better unless it's poorly implemented.

Yes, the X1 will sound better than the sound blaster optical output, because that card is still using a cheap solution for converting to spdif. That's the only purpose of the X1 so it does it's job very well. You'd have to spend considerably more to find a materially better converter. There are sound cards like the more expensive Asus models that are very good, but one of those will run you more than the converter, if you're looking for music playback from a computer this is the way to go unless you want to spend a lot more money.
