please send me a pm. Think i got the VCR sorted out. Tried the blu-ray player next and while it shows a nice picture on the plasma there is no sound. I tried the cd player next and the sound was very nice so at least those connections are correct as far as the back of the 950 goes. So..what am i doing wrong..still..:(

Would go through the OUtlaw forum but not alot of activity there...

how do you got the blueray player hooked up....digital? gotta configure the digital inputs. and last I remember, I think you gotta use the menu through a TV screen to do it (at least thats the way the 990 is)

The outlaw, if I'm correct, doesn't do the new BR codecs. Some BR disc also don't have a DD/DTS soundtrack either and a lot of BDP's these days don't have 5.1 pre-outs. To get the newer codecs into the outlaw, you would need a player with analog outputs.

Time to go shopping, upgrade that outlaw.

Deleted. My apologies to tony, he is correct, as 950 has no HDMI. I haven't looked at the back of 950 for a while...

950 has no DVI, only component. What bluray player is it, and are you using a digital connection or multi-channel analog outputs? I disagree with Tony that it is time to upgrade the pre. Get on ebay and get a Sony BPD-S550 that has multi analog outputs and converts everything internally. You can get it for less than 100 bucks. The sound will be very good on the cheap.

970 and 990 have DVI, and I think everything after that has HDMI. I have thought about picking up a 950 on ebay because sometimes they go for as little as 100 bucks in good condition, but with an (almost) all in-ceiling HT the necessary amps would be a waste of money...

True, he can go that route. However, using the analog outputs also has it's disadvantages. If one speaker goes down, some BDP won't allow you to re-route that portion of the signal like a receiver/processor can, so that info is lost. Plus that's 6+ more cables to buy which also add up. Having HDMI compliant gear limits the cables needed and also allows for other gear to be easily compatible.
