I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this but I wanted to get the word out. There is currently a pair of Vintage ESS AMT 1 tower speakers on Ebay that are local to me. The way the add is worded makes them out to sound and work great..however the add is false! I checked the speakers out the other day in person and found that both tweeters were shot. One read 0ohms the other 2.8 ohms they are supposed to be 4ohms. The one driver I was able to look at does not appear original as it does not fit the hole in the cabinet properly and was rigged to stay in place. Also the same driver drags horribly when gently pushed on the cone. I was not able to get a look at the second woofer.
I talked to the owner last night and he is now fully aware of their current condition. I went over with them what the ohm meter did and what the readings meant. If you purchase these please be aware of the above mentioned statement.
I don't think he is trying to screw anybody over intentionally. Instead I believe he is ignorant in what he has and that its hard for him to believe a young whipper snapper like myself.
Below is a link to the speaker add.

In full disclosure I do believe these are the same speakers that got away from me other day at our local goodwill. You can check out the link below. However, I have no intent in purchasing them. I just want to make sure nobody on here gets harmed if they are thinking about bidding on them.

Thanks for the info bored184.... I had been following them since my dad has a working pair and spare parts are hard to come by and expensive. I'll probably end up with them myself one day and want some spare Heils put back. I had thought of call EndersShadow and have him check on them for me, but now I don't have to bother him with it.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

Yup, Jon and I have talked back and forth a bit about em. Glad you didnt end up bidding, and that the listing got pulled..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Good to know! You may have saved a certain forum member here a big headache! Not mentioning any names...but you can read between the lines I think. lol--Gary--
Onkyo Integra M504, Bottlehead Foreplay III, Denon SACD, Thiel CS2.3, NHT VT-2, VT-3 and Evolution T6, Infinity RSIIIa, SDA1C and a few dozen other speakers around the house I change in and out. -
I wasn't real serious on them, just know I need some more spares down the road. I already have an extra set of AMT 1A crossovers, passive rads, and one extra driver. Waiting on the right deal for a set of HEIL's and definitely need some new speaker covers. The flimsy wood frames on dads have been damaged during one of his moves. I have a saved search on the bay for anything ESS that pops up so I'm not missing any of the postings.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.
